I don't think it is all that intense as it is being made out to be...from what I can judge, the film seems to be a full-on masala entertainer, with a few 'class' elements thrown in, to give it the SLB touch!
Nothing in the trailer and promo's suggest that its a film for niche audience...but yeah, as someone mentioned elsewhere, the physicality and intimate scenes in the film might be a turn off for family audiences.
But I think the film-makers are targetting the younger people in the audience...if it finds its mark there, no reason why it should not do well.
The good thing is that unlike Besharam, or Krrish or even D3, no one is expecting RL to break records...either they are expecting it to flop completely or just about recover money and be declared a hit. (This is BF's view on RL)
Even the trade analysts are cautiously optimistic about the film...everyone is expecting it to do reasonably well, but not fall in the BB category.
So, if it does extremely well, it will come as a suprise to everyone and if it manages to become a simple hit, then also, no one will be overtly shocked.
Also, unlike K3 and D3 and other big budget, much hyped films, RL won't take long to come under the safe category...a good opening followed by a good weekend will all it take for it to recover its costs and sail through!
PS: Films with a desi theme have been doing well...CE, BMB, Raanjhnaa this year...hopefully RL will also join them :)
