If only second half was better, the movie would have at least recovered its budget. Ranveer was snoozefest through out the movie. I didn't see anything special about him in the movie. Heck I found him much better in LDVRB. Sona did surprise me with the adaptation of Pakhi.

Perspective it is.
The majority probably shares mine so it flop and the overactive and overzealous so called class audience shares yours.
Simple no.
Blaming the audience is a petty and simple excuse without acknowledging the mistakes in the profuct itself.
A good film finds acceptance fron Indian audience.
A slow film like The Lunchbox did, a sad film like Aashiqui did, an adult comedy like Grand Masti did, a sports biopic like MB did and a masala Chennai Express did.
So if Lootera really was that good ot would jave found acceptance too.

Wow, really? Since when is audience acceptance or a hit/flop status a measure of a good film? Chennai Express worked because of SRK/Rohit Shetty. Grand Masti worked because of sex, and Aashiqui only worked because of its songs and the swooning ARK fan girls. None of these movies worked because they were GOOD films. In fact, if you look at the majority of 100 crore films, they are awful films.

The Lunchbox was a great film but it's only considered a hit because it's budget was only 10 crores. In fact, Lootera earned more than The Lunchbox at the box office. But because it's budget was larger, it isn't considered a hit. So, really, saying that a hit film = good film and a flop film = bad film is a gross oversimplification of the situation.

@Chatpati
You didnt think they were good films
a lot of people did
Perspective and Tastes I said already
No SRK/Rohit could have saved CE if it wasnt a film which was good for a lot of people.
Or did JTHJ with SRK, a bigger brand of a director and number one actress at that time did 200 and I missed it?
No ARK could have saved A2 if it was bad for all
Why dont Shahid films work?
Loads of fangirls
GM worked bcuz it delieveref what it promised

ootera crashed from very first Monday
Lunchbox on 400 screens was spectacular in second week
And as far as budget is concerned it was theur own mistake to keep it so high
But if they havent spent so much on promotions and release it probably would have struggled to do what it did

It's simply not a movie made for the masses. It was too slow paced and had a high budget working against it. Regardless of how it performed at the BO, it's still one of my favorite movies of the year. It's one of those rare movies that has a lasting impact on you and stays with you long after you've left the theater.

Agree with those who say that the box office is no indication of a good film. A film might hit the pulse of the audience at a particular time but that doesn't mean it's good or has any qualitative value as the years roll by.

Think back to some of the greatest films ever made, in Hollywood Citizen Kane and in Bollywood, Pyaasa. Miserable flops when they were first released. Decades later, they're both held up as the epitome of cinema. More relatively recently, pretty everyone will agree these days that Dil Chahta Hai was a landmark film, it changed the way Bollywood films were made and how we as the audience expected our films to be. But when it was released in 2001, it was barely an average grosser.

The point is, Lootera might not be the greatest film of a all time, but it WILL be considered a great film in years to come. Nobody associated with it, not Sonakshi, not Ranveer and not Motwane will regret being a part of this project. It is a feather in all their caps.

I absolutely LOVED this movie, but after watching it I understood why it flopped; the movie dragged at times and was quite slow, especially at the end. The immense slowness sort of reminded me of Aiyya, another BW flop.

Lootera is my favorite film of 2013. Granted I haven't watched that many this year but most that come out are trash anyway. Plus, it's also one of the better films to come out in many years in terms of direction, execution, music and acting. However, it was never supposed to take the box office by storm. It may have flopped but it will be remembered for years to come and I honestly think it will be a huge cult hit in a decade or so as well. So really despite the monetary loss, this film is still a winner in many aspects. It was technically sound and as far as I am concerned anyway, it had soul.
