The moment they took Sasheh Agha for the movie, I knew kuch toh gadbad hai!
The film wasnt' half as bad as it was made out to be...Arjun was pretty decent! Had they promoted it even half as much as they promoted Ishaqzaade, it would have worked!

SRK-Adi share a different relationship as compared to the other stars and Adi. They grew in BW together. I would say YRF was more loyal to him than he has been to YRF. Its only later when they wanted to expand did they branch out to other stars.
The new generation of stars are yet to get there in terms of popularity. What I dont like is this over-dependence on their mentors. All the successful stars today made it on their own (connections helped ofcourse) rather than being dependant on one person to devise strategies for them.
YRF doesnt stick to proteges if they give flops...they also move on to others if they get successful...like they did in Katrina's case.
For Arjun I dunno...it was almost as if YRF deliberately wanted Aurangazeb to bomb. They didnt promote the film at all.

The bold bit...you really think so? 😕

Arjun isn't dependent on YRF. He signed some 10 films right after Ishaqzaade. But Aurangzeb was royally ignored by YRF...despite the fact that YRF has been super lame with all promotions for years now.

About the strategies, I guess that's more of a generational change than anything else. Back then such 3 film deals, PR teams, etc...nothing existed. They had to make it on their own...of course family connections were there for all, but they all made it on their own. Nepotism came in post 2000s when the second generation BW folks grew up. Then Ranbir and Sonam were the first star kids who tried to pull the "we're not going to use our family to make films for us" card...now most newcomers want to do that. Eventually they'll have to start looking outside of BW for talent b/c otherwise they're all related...they won't be able to make films. 😆 But yeah, now they have help of PR's and 3 film deals.

They didn't really promote Ishaqzaade much either, though that was definitely much more promoted than Aurangzeb. Its just Ishaqzaade's music became quite popular, so it did well. Then the Romeo and Juliet with guns was new last year.

Though I agree that YRF completely ignored Aurangzeb despite the good cast and potential it had. They will probably promote Gunday more.

@Shreya (I keep taking your name, because I really like the sound of it!😊)

SRK and YRF have shared a symbiotic relationship...barabari ka rishta!
YRF gave Darr to SRK which laid the foundation for what he became later on, both as a superstar and a cultural icon...and SRK gave YRF their biggest blockbuster, which led to YRF turning from a ghar ki kheti wala studio to one of the most respected & successful production houses in India!
I think of all the relationships in bollywood...this one...between SRK and YRF / Yash Chopra / Aditya Chopra has been the most genuine! And that is why, it has lasted so long!

In the 90s post Darr and DDLJ atleast. Once YRF started making more films they started hiring other stars because obviously SRK wouldnt be able to do all the films. SRK did films with others too along with YRF and Dharma. But yes he would give preference to their films above all. That continued till he launched RCE.

Ishaqzaade was promoted more than Aurangazeb but not as much. I agree with Himani...Amit Trivedi's music got popular plus Parineeti's screen presence caught attention in the promos. But they promoted SDR...I couldnt open a website without something about it popping up.

Well yeah...in 2000's multiplexes showed up and YRF got more directors rather than just Yash Chopra and Adi...so they obviously had to work with more people. I'm not doubting their loyalty...just that I don't think SRK was any less loyal to them, even now. He has done every single film they wanted him to, many without asking for/reading scripts or any questions even. Its just now YRF is willing to wait a little for SRK rather than SRK moving his dates mid-shooting for other films to accommodate a YRF film. 😆

Yes that way the loyalty has always been reciprocated from both sides. They have always given SRK their best films(in their opinion).
