An Open Letter To Ranbir Kapoor

Dear Ranbir Kapoor

I am surprised at the defeaning silence from your end after the fate of BESHARAM. I am sure you too are surprised at the knock to the solar plexus this film has received?

Not your fault entirely. The director was in another time-frame in another time zone, trying to recreate another template.

But then you cannot absolve yourself entirely from this besharamact, if I may be permitted to say so.

Besharam, because there was no substance in it for you to do what you were made to do. Like for instance, pinching your 'crotch area' every now and then, with your legs wide apart. It is not you. It was not even the character. There were no scenes of substance in the entire plot to merit the presence of an actor of your caliber. And you haven't even fallen on hard times (I pray that that never happens) to grab any and everything that comes your way.

You are a fabulous actor. No doubt about that. Even a semblance of a crack, and you barge in to make a scene stand out. But here there were only cracks in the script and even more cracks. As a result, you cracked up!

You need to select scripts with patience and interest. You need to form a team of advisors who know what it takes to make a film and also who know what is a good script. And for God's sake, don't ever sign on to do a film for friendship's sake.

Let there be a complete segregation of personal and professional relationships. Even if you want to take a friendship to a professional level, ensure that everything is spoken and is in writing before you sign on the dotted line. That will cement your friendship as well as enable your professional relationship to grow.

Your Net Worth is huge! You have to realize that.

Sirach 6:7-12 (The Holy Bible) is clear in this aspect. ''When you make friends, don't be too quick to trust them; make sure that they have proved themselves. Some people will be your friends only when it is convenient for them, but they won't stand by you in trouble. Others will fall out with you over some argument, and then embarrass you by letting everyone know about it. Others will sit at your table as long as things are going well; they will stick to you like your shadow and give orders to your servants, but they will not stand by you in trouble. If your situation takes a turn for the worse, they will turn against you, and you won't be able to find them anywhere.''

We find 'friends' everywhere when we are successful. Now is the time to weed out the chaff from the grain.

Don't worry; even the best have been through the worst. Only recently, Vidya Balan, 'Our Hero', did GHANCHAKKAR. That does not make her a bad actor.
