R. . . Rajkumar is an upcoming Bollywood action flick directed by the man responsible for resurrecting the floundering careers of many of Bollywood stars in the past, one and the only, Prabhu Deva. All set to hit the theatres this December, it features Shahid Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, and Sonu Sood among others in key roles.
Music Director: Pritam Chakraborty
Lyricists: Ashish Pandit, Mayur Puri, Anupam Amod, Nilesh Mishra
Expectations: R. . . Rajkumar is one such film which besides being one of the biggies, holds a huge significance for its lead actor Shahid Kapoor who desperately needs a hit to turn things around. An ace director, a stellar star cast, a kick-ass promo-all these factors have ensured that there is no shortage of hype and buzz leading up to the release of the film. It goes without saying that an absolutely kick ass masaaledaar album is on the cards and anything less than that would disappoint the music lovers and well wishers of the film.
The Reality: The soundtrack on offer is exactly on the predicted lines. There are seven tracks in totality including a remix number. The general mood of the album is light, upbeat and massy. Pritam once again is in sublime form and seems unstoppable at the moment. The lyricists too have done well in coming up with such fun and unique compositions. All in all, the album is quite good and actually lives up to the huge expectations.
Top Picks :
Gandi Baat: An absolute fun number in the jolly voice of Mika Singh, who is turning out to be a Hit-machine' quite literally. Here he is ably supported by Kalpana Patowary, a popular singer in Bhojpuri films. Not only does she support Mika well here, to her credit, she efficiently adds that extra zing (desi touch) to this already catchy number. . Rocking.
Saree Ke Fall Sa: Actually a romantic number with some intelligently written lyrics. Both the singers-Nakash Aziz and Antara Mitra(best known for Bheegi si bhaagi si from Rajneeti), have done really well here and the outcome is a yet another entertaining number with shades of romance. In a word. Splendid.
Mat Maari: Yet another entertaining number in the playful voices of Kunal Ganjawala and the evergreen Sunidhi Chauhan. The lyrics are light-hearted and fun but the real USP of the track is the little nuances that both the singers bring out with lan. The amazing music by Pritam all but ensures that the track is a hit from the outset. Expect this one to go viral in the days to come if marketed and promoted well enough. . Scintillating.
Dhokha Dhadi: A soulful and soothing love number in the lovable voice of Arijit Singh and Palak Muchhal(Aashiqui 2 stars). It is not hard to imagine that in such a short span of time, Arijit has built quite a reputation for himself, as he seems to be on a roll here too. This is one more such track where his amazing vocals do the talking. . Melodious.
Also worth trying: Gandi Baat(Film version)
Hard Talk: Though there is nothing much wrong with the album here, but as they say nothing can be perfect, there are a few loopholes too. The album is understandably massy but does not have that soul which could have ensured a greater shelf life to the tracks. But that doesn't necessarily make a difference as the album has got HIT written all over it in Big letters.
Final Verdict: The soundtrack of R. . . Rajkumar is fun, massy and entertaining. It might not really turn out to be a classic but there is no denying the fact that it is a yet another hit soundtrack from Pritam and actually, this is all that matters.
