I watched it over weekend and just loved that
Prakash Jha has done a brilliant work of capturing the Anna Movement and giving it a cinematic flavor. Although the characters and events are all fictions he make sure not to loose the basic plot that "Janta Rocks".
It must have been very difficult to pen down characters without making any real life resemblance but the job is well done. If he would have gone overboard to depict the reality the movie would have not even released.
Spoliers ahead
Every one from AB, Ajay, Manoj, Arjun and Kareena has done brilliant job. They played their character well with some high voltage dialogues. At 71 AB can still give all the youngster a tough challenge. The way he stormed into DM office and that slap was so effective that full theater was buzzing with claps
Ajay as Manav looked lost in initial scenes but the moment he took charge of the movement he delivers his best. The scene where he cries seeing the wine bottle after his friend's death was so touching and brilliantly done
Manoj proved again why he is one of the best actor of this generation.
Arjun did full justice to his role and is looking damn hot in the jeans+kurta avtar
Coming to Kareena I don't know why people are saying her role is insignificant. She played Yasmin Ahmed with full conviction. A media reported who knows her job well and is key pillar in strengthening the movement. She did full justice to her role. The frustration on her face when she sees very few people with Ajay on coming to Ambikapur and then later the cunning smile on seeing arjun coming with thousands is worth watching. she is the only one who was opposing ajay's decisions at the end.
Overall I would say a must watch movie.
From my side 4/5

Aww, yay, you liked it.
I guess people's expectations from Kareena at this point are higher. Is it true her role wasnt as lengthy?

just got back watching this one and the butler. back to back mazaa..
quick take...

well if you really have khujli to watch it, watch it for an actor called manoj bajpai guy is brilliant here. amitabh proves he still is one of the best actors india. kareena with so much screen time sucks , she should immediately kick manish malhotra and pompy out of her life, oh and i hope she redeems herself in kjos next, amrita with less screen time was likable. hope she gets more roles. rampal and ajay were so so.
movie does have some moments, @ times u can't help but clap, and seeti, but these moments for such movie , far and few. they should delete all that bakwaas love love between ajay and kareena. koi matlab hi nahi.
besides manjo's performance another good thing is the background music by suleman. wonderful.
sad, this one had so much potential, if only its was well executed bingo. jha's gangajal still tops.
50% movie if fine, other 50% is bekaar. but considering this the case of majority movies this yr, it just might sail thru at boxoffice.

2/5

expectation from.Kareena's character shouldnt be great cz hardly there's few good lengthy female role is created on Bollywood and many of them goes wrong. so i wont blame Kareena. its needed for her to do big budget film though her role is smaller to stay on race. ya we can hope for better role in Badtameez Dil though. otherwise its not needed to get good roles in every film. also if she doesnt do film like Satyagraha people will say she doesnt get any offer.

'Satyagraha' scores, packs a punch!

By Taran Adarsh, September 2, 2013 - 10:59 IST

The mood within the industry is buoyant, with the much-awaited August biggies living up to the audience expectations. While CHENNAI EXPRESS has created history, setting new benchmarks, MADRAS CAF has worked with its target audience -- the multiplex junta. Prakash Jha's SATYAGRAHA too sprung a surprise by opening to double digits on Friday [Rs 11.21 cr] and maintaining the pace over the weekend [Rs 39.12 cr]. The sole hiccup in this sanguine scenario was the tepid response to ONCE UPON AY TIME IN MUMBAI DOBAARA!, which did not live up to the gargantuan expectations.

A film based on politics, generally, has its limitations, since the genre caters to that segment of audience that's politically inclined, those who don't mind watching realistic fares on screen. One also needs to keep in mind the fact that youngsters and families don't really go ga-ga over these films. After attempting films like GANGAAJAL, APAHARAN, RAAJNEETI, AARAKSHAN and CHAKRAVYUH, the viewer has come to expect realistic, hard-hitting fares from Prakash Jha. Besides, Jha is known to extract wonderful performances from his actors, which is an added bonus for spectators. SATYAGRAHA has been lauded for its content and performances, although a segment of viewers are comparing it to Jha's earlier accomplished work RAAJNEETI. Sure, RAAJNEETI and SATYAGRAHA deal with politics, but the two films are dissimilar in terms of content. The comparisons, therefore, are unfitting.

Armed with rave reviews and strong word of mouth, SATYAGRAHA grew steadily over the weekend, but it remains to be seen if it can perform well on weekdays too. With two significant films [ZANJEER, SHUDDH DESI ROMANCE] hitting the marquee next Friday, there's not much breathing space for SATYAGRAHA, but that's something every film-maker/Studio will have to learn to live with. Meanwhile, Jha and UTV can raise a toast, since a solid weekend = winning half the battle.

SDR has very limited audience targeted for college goers only so I don't see that as a threat to satyagrah. Zanjeer can't say the buzz around the movie is so week that I hardly see that as a challenge (might be wrong here but that's what I feel)
WoM for Satyagrah is coming good. I am sure the movie will have decent numbers in weekdays as its appealing to both Young and Family audience.
@DesiG about your question, KKK got enough length in the movie. In a multi-starrer you can't expect her to be there is every frame. Her role is quite significant. She is looking very pretty even in the simple kurtis and Jeans. If people find her way too glamorous for a media reporter, that's not her fault. She has such glamorous presence on screen by default.
