The extremes that stars undergo to get that perfect body for films



These days, there seems to be no stopping Bollywood stars who want to get into tip-top shape for their film roles. While Salman Khan has led the way in terms of fitness — both onscreen and offscreen — other actors work on their bodies to get a specific look for certain films. And they go to some pretty way-out extremes to get the desired results.TOI takes a look at some stars who have taken their fitness regimens to another level for their films...



Bollywood
Farhan Akhtar
Film: Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
Aim: Lean look to play a soldier; bulked-up look to play a sprinter
Workout time: One hour a day, four days a week; later, six hours a day, six days a week
Training: Athletic training, functional training, abdominal, weight training (combination of Hypertrophy Strength Training and Tabata) and endurance training
Diet: No rice, chapatis and bread. Carbs from fruits (only berries) and vegetables. High protein intake
Extreme: 2,500 ab crunches a day as part of endurance training



Aamir Khan
Film: Ghajini
Aim: Six-pack to get a streetfighter-type look
Workout time: Three hours every day
Training: Chest and back on Monday, arms on Tuesday, shoulders and legs on Wednesday - cycle repeated. Half-hour to one hour of cardio, and 1,000 crunches every day.
Diet: Diet of one-third fat, one-third carbs, one-third proteins. No sugar, potatoes, bananas, red meat, egg yolks or fried food.
Extreme: Reduced salt intake the week before the shoot. One glass of water a day in the last three days




Shahid Kapoor
Films: Kaminey, Chance Pe Dance
Aim: Tough look for Kaminey, eight-pack for Chance Pe Dance
Workout time: Five times a week for an hour
Training: High-intensity workout, which is a combination of parkour and weights, plus cardio-circuit training. Works out on the treadmill for at least 15 minutes and works on one or two body parts
Diet: Low-sugar with slow-acting carbohydrates. Six meals a day every two-and-a-half hours
Extreme: Never missed a workout, even if it meant hitting the gym at 2 am

Madhuri Bhattacharya
It's not only the guys who train to get six-packs. Bangalore's girl Madhuri Bhattacharya thought eight-pack abs would be an ideal gift to herself for her birthday. She underwent an active workout routine that included kickboxing and Thai martial arts, cycling and a regular gym workout. She also went on a special diet for a week, and survived on soya nuggets with no salt and just 500 ml water a day before getting her photo shoot done.



Sandalwood
Bollywood actors may be hogging the limelight for their workout preparations for their films, but Sandalwood stars are also getting their act together when it comes to their dedication to fitness. We take a look at some stars in the Kannada film industry who are working on whipping themselves into shape for their upcoming films.




Srikki
Film: B3 Love you
Aim: To go from six-pack abs to eight-pack abs
Workout time: 2-3 hours every day for four months
Training: Since Srikki has a lean muscular body, he only does weight-training targeting two groups of muscles at a time
Diet: Stamed chicken, egg whites and protein powders
Extreme: Strict diet; giving up smoking and alcohol



Chetan Chandra
Film: Kumbarashi
Aim: To go from six-pack abs to eight-pack abs Workout time: 2-3 hours a day
Training: A mix of cardio, weight and isometric training.
Diet: Intake changes according to the workout, but normally includes lots of fibre and proteins
Extreme: Skipping rope between 5,000-10,000 times. Ab crunches for two hours at a stretch



Adityaa
Film: Upcoming project
Aim: Eight-pack abs
Workout time: 2-3 hours
Training: Kris Gethin workout, which involves doing 40 repetitions per set, and an increase in the weight per set. 100 repetitions for each body part. Isometric training
Diet: Protein shakes, and a high-protein, high-fibre diet. No carbs.
Extreme: Barbell deadlift with 135 lbs (50 reps), pushups (50 reps), 24-inch box jumps (50 reps), floor wipers (50 reps), single-arm clean and press with 36 lbs kettlebell (50 reps), pull-ups (25 reps)

aamir at the age of 48 to have such a good body is quite remarkable. At such age, it not easy to build a such lean muscular body and maintain it .

i guess the most important is to act well
stars from old times did not have those 6 packs and still they had great names and people do remember them ... but now a days ... actors come and go.. some are good some are boring
all they have is look nothing else !!!
so movies is it only for looks or... acting ?
