Anyways, coming from the guy who thought Ghanchakkar was incredible, so duh.

I don't think RDB was tacky it was one of the few Aamir films unlike or else his films are thrash usually

I don't know about BMB ill probably just download it

I Loved It!
RDB still remains ROM's best work but this one is well made too
Its a refreshing change from all those back to back love sagas.
The movie is divided into diff phases of Milkha's life. His childhood during partition,Army life,Training and the competitions. The partition phase was the most hard hitting one and is beautifully directed. There is the fun element with friends in the army part.
The story is good but its Farhan's potrayal of Milkha that made the movie what it is. Farhan is a very underrated actor. I dont see anybody else working that hard for a role. You can actually feel his pain .
The actor who potrayed junior Milkha was too good. Easily the second best performance of the movie.
I loved Divya Dutta. The brother sister relationship is admirable.
Milkha's coaches were good as well.
Sonam was present only during the two songs and 1-2 scenes. Not much to perform but she looked pretty and her expressions were spot on
The only flaw is the length of the movie. It dragged towards the end
4/5

I'm no Aamir fan either, but his review seems to imply that he found RDB tacky - so no surprise that he found BMB similar as well.

Aamir's other films are trashy? That's a stretch isn't it? Which are your favorite movies then?

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag Movie Review.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is a biopic based on legendary Indian Athlete Milkha Singh. Film is directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and script is written by Prasoon Joshi. Farhan Akhtar plays the role fof Milkha Singh in the film.

Coming to story of the film. Film is totally based on Milkha Singh life. During the partition, Singh lost his family members. The story talks about his perseverance as an athlete and also as a courageous human spirit. In childhood Milkha loses both his parents in the riots happened in Pakistan part of Punjab. His father utters Bhaag Milkha Bhaag before dying to Milkha Singh to save his life from riots. Thus, Milkha Singh runs from his native village in Pakistan part to come to India in refugee camp. After huge struggle in early days Milkha Singh joins Army. In his training days people in Army notices his running talent and thus his training starts to become a big athlete. Rest is the story of his struggle, hard work dedication and finally rising to become the biggest Indian Athlete ever and winning many competition and Asian and Commonwealth Gold Medals. And finally shattering the World Record for 400 meter.

Film first half is excellent and there is not a single dull moment. Film second half is also good but could have been shorter in length in places by around 10-15 minutes. This could have helped the film to be below 3 hours in length. But still the 2nd half is impactful. All songs are nice and situational.
Coming to performances. Farhan Akhtar looks total Milkha Singh in the film. He pushes himself beyond limits and train hard to look a total athlete at the age of 39. He portrays Milkha Singh magnificently in the big screen. It is highly difficult to portray an iconic character like Milkha Singh on big screen. For that one have to look raw and strong. Farhan Akhtar does justice to the role and his hard work shows in each single frame. A sure shot award winning performance from his side. And yes, he delivers his career best performance till date!

Divya Dutta gives her career best performance as Elder Sister of Milkha Singh. Whenever she appears on screen she brings tears to eyes. Yograj Singh (Cricketer Yuvraj Singh Father) as India Coach and Pawan Malhotra (Milkha Singh Senior) are absolute delight in the film and both gives first rated performance. Prakash Raj as Trainer delivers a splendid performance. He finally gets a positive role.
Sonam Kapoor has an extended guest appearance. She looks natural and beautiful in the film. She might have a small role in the film, but her role is pivotal as she inspires Milkha to be a good man in life and which inspires him to join Indian Army. Rebecca Breeds and Meesha Shafi (as Perizaad) has small roles but impactful ones.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag runs on two pillars. First is the script of the film. Kudos for Prasoon Joshi for choosing such a inspiring story untold. Second is Farhan Akhtar. After seeing the film it is certain that no actor would have enacted Milkha Singh better than him. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra direction is solid.

Seldom we come across films that inspires generation to come. BMB is one of them. Brawny points for makers for making this biopic. Thanks to this film we got to know the inspiring story of great Milkha Singh. Last year there was Paan Singh Tomar and now Milkha Singh. Next year Mary Kom Biopic is also coming. Hope in future Bollywood makers will look into this trend more and showcase more true inspiring stories.

Verdict - 4/5 and another half for outstanding performance of Farhan Akhtar. Film will have strong impact on audiences and it will also shine well at the Box Office. Must Watch!

Movie review: Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

Sun is setting, raindrops are falling, there is wind and a kid is running. Reason? He is a Sikh and is in Pakistan, which has just been formed and Pathans have attacked his village and kin. The kid's father screams, run Milkha run.

Some time later, the kid returns to his burnt down but somehow wet house. He slips on the blood-ridden muddy floor and tumbles through a weak wall. Here, he finds dead bodies piled up. They are of his mother, father and the rest of the family.

The kid screams and runs towards his mother but slips. He runs again with all his might but slips again. After this, Milkha runs again, slips again at an important moment as the incident in Pakistan forces him to turn around. This tragedy ends in Pakistan when his friend tells him that its not people but circumstances which are bad. His friend's son asks him if he is the same Milkha who runs.

Then Milkha runs his final race and Pakistan runs with him in this madness. He is given a name: The Flying Sikh.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is the story of that same 'Flying Sikh' Milkha Singh. The film goes into too much detail in the first half and feels slow here and there. The second half eliminates this issue. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is the same genius who gave us Rang de Basanti and comes across as the director who livens up every moment. Prasoon Joshi's script reaffirms the belief that when a poet narrates a story, it feels as if the story is full of emotion.

Farhan Akhtar's acting makes one rejoice. Go watch Bhaag Milkha Bhaag as it is a film that justifies your life and experiences.

If we go into the flashback of the story, we find a Sikh boy growing up in Multan. Due to partition, he has to come to Delhi, leaving his family back. In Delhi, he lives with his sister. He steals cola to make a living and then falls in love with Bira, who lives in a refugee colony in Shahdara. He makes up his mind to win her and gets enlisted in the Army.

Here begins his race. At first for the greed of an extra glass of milk and escaping parade, then to wear India's blazer and subsequently to get the world at his feet, by running. This race comes to an important turn in 1956 Melbourne Olympics, where he is unable to survive in the first round of the 400m sprint. He understands that the race is not as simple as it seems.

Then comes the drive, which he lives with and four years later, he reaches 1960 Rome Olympics after winning the Asiad and Commonwealth Games among many other championships, and all eyes are on him. After all, he holds the world record. But here, amid the noise of that bloody evening, he turns around and loses.

But life does not end at the loss. Milkha overcomes this fear in a race in Pakistan.

The film is 3 hours 7 minutes long. In the beginning, one thinks how will the time pass by. Some scenes in the first half could have been easily removed, but perhaps filmmaker's stubbornness and his attachment with everything becomes evident.

Even the songs like Maston ka Jhund and title track power the film and its reason for existence. Some songs, if removed, could have reduced the film's length though. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's music provides soul to Prasoon Joshi's lyrics.

Go and run with Milkha. In this fast-paced life, this race will definitely soothe your senses. I promise you.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag Review - Bas Tu Bhaag Milkha!

4.5/5Verdict - Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is the best film of the year

Here it is! The best Hindi movie of the year.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is a biopic on Milkha Singh - the Flying Sikh. The film chronicles his life and follows many biopic conventions. Apart from being a biopic, it is also a sports film and a period film. You could see the screenplay as problematic where it meanders from one point in his life to another but how many films combine 3 genres into a taut narrative? Prasoon Joshi faces this task and makes sure that the core is always cohesive. To me, it's one of those movies where I don't care how it's written or made. It just works. Everything about it. It makes you feel each run, each obstacle, each segment in his life. It makes you cheer and applaud for the underdog. It makes your heart soar with the patriotic vigor.

Quite obviously, this is Farhan Akhtar's finest hour. You can see the effort in each scene. While we have actors like Ranbir Kapoor who sleepwalk through any role with ease and blow our minds doing so. We will always need actors who put in passion into their work so much so that it shows. Something that was last seen in Hrithik Roshan's performances. When done right, it is compelling to watch. Akhtar embodies Milkha to the point where you feel this Sardarji has been a Punjabi all his life. During this entire acting tour-de-force, he also does a shimmy. Maikya chha gaye tussi, Akhtar saab.

The supporting performances form the heart of the film. Divya Dutta plays the sister and Pavan Malhotra plays the coach. Every time they address him as "Milkhu, Milkhe or Milkhya", it just feels right. Sonam Kapoor doesn't ham and keeps it simple. But there's one casting choice that just baffles me - Dalip Tahil as Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. You can't ever take that seriously, can you? But when a film makes you do just that, you know you're watching damn good one.

The Punjabi spoken in the film is also note-worthy. After witnessing Vidya Balan's ghastly accent and horrible mess of a performance in Ghanchakkar, this was a definitely a welcome watch. The theth Punjabi never overshadows the Hindi common parlance to alienate the audience. The Punjab shown here isn't the Punjab we've seen in movies before, especially not the Yash Raj kind. The specifics make this film more Indian instead of restricting it to a certain section of society.

Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy crown the film with songs that are inspiring and heart-wrenching. The title track and Zinda will be huge hits with the youth. Arif Lohar and Daler Mehndi scream-singing on the soundtrack aches out each yell that Milkha lets out on the running track. My personal favorite is Mera Yaar, a song that is so much more than a love song.

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra wowed the nation with Rang De Basanti (2006). While I wasn't a big fan of the political stance of the film and neither do I think the jingoism in this one will be my favorite thing about the film, the film ends on a better note than how RDB ended. The anti-Pakistan sentiment will always be seeped into our country's consciousness. My grandparents who migrated from Pakistan don't have fond memories of the partition. I could hardly imagine what it would feel like to live through it but the stories can send shivers down any human spine. It captures those moments of our history that we must never forget and gives a solemn catharsis in the end. Bravo, Mr. Mehra.

The film clocks in at above 3 hours but I wouldn't cut out a single minute of it. You don't need patience to watch it, you just need a bit of spirit. As far as the structural issues are concerned, I just looked back at my life and didn't find any coherence in it. Then I listed a few great biopics in my head and they all had an irregular struture with long, free-flowing scenes. Probably that's why it's called life. I'm sure it would be clichd to end this review by requesting you to run to theater. But what the hell! Just run to that theater and watch the story of one of the greatest Indians fly its way across the screen!
