The changing face of Aishwarya at Cannes
Besides her films, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is truly passionate about 'Festival de Cannes'. Beginning her journey from 2002, the gorgeous superstar will complete 12 glorious years of her association with the carnival of carnivals, this very year. As Cannes International Film Festival begins this year, where Ash is all set to walk the red carpet yet again, we take a look at Aishwarya's styling and wardrobe at Cannes over the years.
Aishwarya started out as a complete wardrobe mismatch, corrected herself mid-way and turned out as a shiny diamond at the end. Now that's what fashion is all about. It's not following the crowd, but making them follow you.
The flawless diva made her debut appearance at Cannes for the premiere of her film Devdas. She went ethnic donning a fluorescent yellow Banarasi sari embellished with a gold sequined border, over the top matching gold jewelry and make-up paired with open tousled hair, disappointing her world-wide fans. If there was something eye-catchy about her look than it was the colour of the sari.
In 2003, the Beauty queen manifested on the red-carpet in a parrot green Neeta Lulla's creation paired with loud OTT gold jewelry and a tight hair do. Her next ensemble was a heavily embroidered pink (fuchsia) not-so complimenting lehenga-choli with cross-back strings and again a bun with silver jewelry goofed up her look. She ditched the desi look for a black body hugging attire with a pink cape which was the last piece of tatters we wanted to see this fabulous diva wearing.
Aishwarya arrived at the 57th International Cannes Film Festival opening ceremony dinner on May 12, 2004 surprising everyone in her cleavage and back cut-out white shimmery gown paired with a sheer white shawl, exposing her perfectly toned body. Keeping the make-up and accessorizes minimal, she reflected sheer elegance and panache
In 2005, began the era of gowns. Ash donned eclectic gowns one after the other. The black floor length plunging neckline with a lacy midriff Gucci look was a hit, which she perked up with her smokey eyes, black pumps and glossy flowing hair with waves. She sizzled under the presence of black.
The B-town babe stole the limelight in a delightful floral print Georgia Armani white gown. She reminded us of a perfect summer morning with her fresh, pristine and clean look.
The hottie attended the 59th film festival (2006) in a strapless black feathered body-con with a huge flower on her hemline and an ankle-length slight flaunting her curvaceous figure. She rounded off her exquisite look with minimalistic make-up, luscious side-swept hair and a silver box clutch as the only accessory.
Her midnight blue floor-sweeping strapless gown with a knee-slit and ruffles added texture to the otherwise plain outfit. The snake neck-piece was just another accessory to divert attention or apparently to seek it. Nonetheless it still was a ravishing look.
Spotting Aishwarya in her then western minimalistic look became nothing new. But she as always tried to surprise us, this time accompanying her husband in 2007, donning a white off shoulder with a diamond neckpiece, let down hair and a rectangular clutch. The blue eye shadows made no difference to lift up the otherwise expected look. Our biggest gripe was the once upon heart-throbbing queen had forgotten to experiment and learned how to play it safe.
In 2008, Aishwarya adorned four different outfits, the green ruffled floral printed off-shoulder with a sweet-heart neckline; deep knee-length slit and tied up hair look was a complete blunder. But the bright fuchsia ruffled satin halter neck not only added glitz and glamour to the red carpet but also saved the day. Ash made quite a statement in her black deep plunging neck ruffled Cavalli gown with dark smokey eyes, an uber-chic pompadour and a box clutch. Last but not the least the glam doll in her skin hue lacy floor-length Armani attire with a sweet-heart neckline and a side-part had a flawless and ultra-sheen appeal
In 2009 the goddess was all set to burn the red carpet with hubby Abhishek, in a satin pleated dress; sleek pulled-back hair and a sparkling rectangular clutch.
Aishwarya finally managed to entice us in her strapless milky white Roberto Cavalli flowing gown with never-ending drapes and frills. Her sleek bun and pearl ear drops added to the feminity. The teen-sensation sparkled in the Giorgio Armani black jittery off-shoulder and beautified it with her brazen red pout.
In 2010, the star icon fluttered her svelte frame in lavender sequined with floral buds, tulle and mouseline Elle Saab trailing off-shoulder, fancified with a bouffant and her bling.
The overdose of Ellie Saab was such a bummer. The violet draped ankle-length gown with a silver clutch was a mundane. Neither was there anything classy or chic about the whole outfit.
The pink panther star rocked the red carpet in a breathtaking snow white and navy blue Armani Prive floor-length two-color ensemble with a chunky watch and a matching box clutch in 2011.
The neutral tone Ellie Saab flowing gown with an asymmetrical neckline and a peplum accentuated with a Jimmy Choo Cosma clutch and a bouffant look was the best of all.
After a decade, one saw the stunning actress coming back to where she started, 'her desi andaaz'. At the Cannes International Film Festival 2012, the new mommy steeped in splendid long full-sleeves chikankari off-white and burnt orange Abu-Jani ensemble with rich decorative zari work and a pompadour hairdo. We were not only awe-struck by her magnificent charm but also envied her decor.
The second attire was an Elie Saab again; where-in Ash flaunted her post baby figure in a brazen navy blue studded net full- sleeves floor sweeping gown.
