Although it's a win-win situ for both, it must be really hard for a mother to give up her child isn't it? Anyways hope things work out well for the Khans

EXACTLY! If you've seen CCC, Preity delivers but then refuses to give her baby away. A child is a mother's blessing and is very hard to give up to a random stranger.

Hopefully everything works out well though.

That was a traditional surrogacy where the biological parents were the surrogate mother and the father. Now with IVF, the surrogate mother is only the birth mother, not the biological one. They also go through psychological sessions to make sure they won't have issues giving up the baby. Surrogate mothers are chosen very carefully to avoid complications for all parties involved.

I think surrogacy is easier in India than the US. US has really messy laws about surrogacy--the rights, who's actually the parent..it's confusing. Surrogacy in India is a growing business, especially for foreigners because its much cheaper and laws aren't as strict. People are much smarter now and get legally binding contracts which highlight the rights of the surrogate mother in detail to avoid the mother coming back and claiming rights on the child.

I agree.

In this case, Biological father is SRK and biological mother is Gauri.
Unborn baby is later transferred( after 6 weeks?? ) in to the other womb( Surrogacy mother).

I dont even think the lady knows the baby is for Khans.

USA is pretty messed up in this case. BuT i think in India/ UK , its easy.

Woah! :O

This is quite a surprise ...very unexpected to be saying the least. I'm really happy for Shah and Gauri though. Wish them luck!

I do think this is a better option than adoption. They already have two kids and now it could be difficult for their kids to adjust with the new one, knowing he/she is adopted. And so many other psychological issues that come with it. It is a different story when a couple doesn't have any kids and then they opt for adoption.

@some comments: Well there are different types of surrogacy procedures. The child can still be fully genetically related to BOTH Gauri and Shah if they go with IVF treatment. The embryo will then just have to be transferred to the surrogate mother and carried by her for the period.
Actually many foreigners (couples who aren't able to conceive) have adopted this method and India is actually a common place to opt for a surrogate mother. It's affordable for them and convenient too.

yeah..but fertility tourism is no longer as huge as it was..there was this case about the german government denying citizenship to these twins born out of surrogacy..and the surrogate mother didn't want them back..it got really messy! I don't even know what finally happened!

Good info.
Yes a surrogate mother dont even need to meet the child's father as the baby fetus would be transferred to her womb through some medical operation. She just needs to carry the baby fullterm and deliver. The process is lot more technical than emotional.

In IVF, the fertilized eggs are transferred into the uterus in about 3 days I believe.

Yeah it's possible that this is completely anonymous and the surrogate mother doesn't actually know who the parents are. It might be better that way. She is essentially supposed to carry the fertilized embryo full term and deliver the child.

Yikes, that's terrible and totally heartbreaking. I hope things worked out properly and the babies actually did get to be with their parents...and weren't abandoned. 😭

Surrogacy is somewhat messy sadly because of such legal hassles. I wish it will get better as the stigma leaves...people become more accepting and thus laws will get revised.
