there was a time when i went to watch YAARANA...OH BOY I never saw the craze any actress had. and when the song came 'mera piya ghar aaya' what men, what women and what kids...at that theatre everyone was dancing to that song as if it was a live performance. however yaarana had bombed at the BO, but the songs of madhuri became a rage.

and yesterday i went to watch YJHD the same theatre I watched yaarana years back. I was just waiting for madhuri's number even though i didn't like the song personally but watching madhuri after so many years was something that would bring many memories back. to all the excitement her ghagra number arrived. much to my surprise this time, the reaction of the whole theatre was pretty much thanda, even though the house was full. no whistle, no taali, no hooting, nothing wait what a minute. this is MADHURI...guys wake up. i turned my head almost 19-20 times as to see the faces, they were all blank, as if madhuri is unknown to them.

the message is loud and clear. the current generation has passed over madhuri's legacy. which clearly defines the title of the film. YEH JAWANI HAI DEEWANI...MEANS THE TIME YOU SHOW YOUR JAWAANI THE PUBLIC WILL BE DEEWANI and when your are no longer a JAWAANI, then dont expect us to be deewani. how true?

It is true for the most part, jawaani has a fluctuating shelf life [there are a few exceptions to the rule] but on the whole once it's past it's sell by date [from the viewer's perspective] then it subsequently loses it's appeal.

Yup the same response when I watched the film on friday..thanda..not even a single clap or whistle and mind you the crowd was mostly familys who have watched Madhuri's films!! maybe because i was watching the movie in dubai..crowds here normally dont react!! miss the cinemas in India where ppl hoot and whistle!!😔

I agree man, i dislike madhuri..she is highly overrated and i will never understand why everyone puts her on a pedestal so high 24/7 and basically treats her like a goddess 😕 like give me a break! she is a mediocre actress and she was more famous for her sex appeal and dancing prowess.. i dont care if i get crucified for making this analogy but madhuri was like the katrina kaif of the 90's 🤡

You cannot compare Madhuri in her time to Katrina in this generation. Madhuri had so much poise and grace. I've never seen anything remotely like that in Katrina, til this date. Madhuri has elegance and this softness to her. Even when she did songs like Dhak dhak karne laga, she never looked vulgar. She has that smile to die for. With Katrina, she struggled with Hindi a lot (And still does to this date after spending a decade in India), and she was a terrible dancer and actor. What worked with her was her curvy body and innocent face. She's improved a great deal as a dancer a little as an actor, but she's no match for Madhuri.

It's sad to see that India is so ageist today that if an older woman were to do an "item song" it wouldn't be considered age-appropriate because the shelf-life of that actress has passed. However, if they see a 40-year old actor romancing a 20-something girl, that's absolutely acceptable.

Madhuri is not mediocre! She is graceful and can express so well! Yeah I agree, she wasn't as good in DTPH but she is great in so many other movies like HAHK. Its okay if you don't like her but she is no way as bad as Katrina! Katrina in my opinion, relies on her personal controversies to be a top actress whereas Madhuri relied on her talent.

I think younger generation wouldn't mind if there was a nice song with Madhuri in it, but that Ghaghra song was such a waste of her talent.

amazing and true post I remember I saw hahk 14 times in theatre ( becoz of salman ) and mads used to sat that hu hu hu hu ( that hiccup wala thing )and ppl wud go wild now shes in her 40s the new generation has moved onto kat deepika anushka parineeti they ve now really passed over her for sure
actually I feel in india we still are narrow minded I don't think except bebos fans other guys want to see her after marriage as neetu rightly said its ur jawaani that rules once u r in the mature category its gone just imagine kat is supposed to be ranbirs official gf ( not even confirmed ) but now she is no longer the hot property she used to be its deepika who is ruling now
its sad in Hollywood characters/roles matter more in our country style and fashion matters more and ofcourse youth appeal hope vidya aish bebo priyanka get author backed roles otherwise I ll be bored seeing anushka and deepika giving their limited expressions all the time

I find her overrated. She is good but definitely not legendary as she is hailed to be..

right now all the attributes given to her of being a dancing diva, living legend... r pure examples of andho mein kaana raaja.

Oh please! as if Madhuri had a squeaky clean image in the 90s 🤪 even she had her share of scandals/controversies during her heydays. Her intense affair with Sanjay Dutt, her weird relationship with her secretary and her "you scratch my back I scratch yours" relationship with Subhash Ghai to name a few.. its just that the media was not that hyperactive in the 90s

Yeah obviously everyone thats known has rumours/stories around them, but Madhuri became famous because of her talent and these stories followed. Katrina got entry because of Salman. Madhuri doesn't have to be your favorite but she is definitely more talented than Katrina.

Hmm don't exactly know whether her craze has died out or no but when in a Mumbai theatre where i saw the movie, there were loads of claps, whistles etc for the ghagra song 😆

A generation starved for love made Saiyaara a megahit

A generation that texts “ily” but struggles to say “I love you” out loud found its anthem in Saiyaara . Soft, aching, and impossibly tender, it...
