The 'almost Mrs Salman Khan' shortlist

Indian actor Salman Khan's 'single' status has been threatened many times in the past but the hero seems unscratched and not ready yet.

From Sangeet Bijlani, Aishwarya Rai to Katrina Kaif, he charmed them all and has still managed to remain unmarried.

When Emirates24|7 dared to asked Salman if he ever plans to marry, the actor without hesitation replied, "I have been thinking about it. I have been married four times earlier (jokes). But it hasn't worked out for me. But I will try for the fifth time (laughs)."

As rumour swirls of Salman Khan set to tie the knot even as father Salim Khan refutes the hearsay, we look at his alleged affairs with some of the most beautiful women in the industry who almost became Mrs Salman Khan.

Sangeeta Bijlani: After her Miss India win in 1980, Sangeeta Bijlani did a few films and started seeing Salman in the late 80s. They painted they town red with their affair and seemed not bother about the headlines they made. But the two parted ways in the early 90s and Salman was accused of infidelity. Earlier this year, Salman, 47, came out in support of Sangeeta, 52, when her marriage with Mohd Azharuddin hit a rocky patch.

Somy Ali: After Sangeet entered Somy Ali. Somy (19) came to Indian from US, met Salman through a common friend soon after her acting debut in 1993. As per rumours, she could not tolerate Salman's excessive drinking and abusive behaviour, and so left him in 1999. Somy went off the radar and resurfaced when she accompanied radar for a shooting schedule for 'Ready' (2011). He now supports her NGO.

Aishwarya Rai: After the Amitabh-Rekha saga, the Salman-Aishwarya affair is one of the most talked about affairs in Bollywood till now. Aishwarya Rai came into Salman's life while shooting 'Hum Dil Chuke Sanam' (1999). They were touted to be one of the best looking couples and everyone thought Salman has finally found his match. But in March 2002, they had an ugly public breakup and Ash's family filed a police complaint against him. Aishwarya went to media and said she was physically abused by Salman.

Katrina Kaif: The stunner met Salman when she was a struggling model who was fresh of the disaster called 'Boom'. The smitten Salman encouraged directors such as David Dhawan to sign on the actress to promote her in Bollywood, despite the fact that she barely spoke Hindi. It has never been clear whether they dated or when they actually parted ways. Both the actors never made a public confession of their relationship but it was known to the industry insiders that Katrina almost lived in Galaxy apartment (Salman's house). Though the girl has now moved on to much younger pasture (read Ranbir Kapoor) yet she has maintained her relationship with the Khan family.

Zarine Khan: This look-alike of Katrina Kaif entered Salman's life when rumours were strong about Salman-Katrina break up. As Zarine struggled in the industry Salman recommended her name to filmmakers. She is often spotted with Salman. They attend parties together, sometimes hand-in-hand. It is obvious Zarine is quite smitten by Salman. She would have been the perfect loyal bride for this bachelor.

Lulia Vantur: Salman's latest rumoured girl, the 32-year-old Romanian actor-anchor met him two years ago on one of his trips abroad, and she has made two long trips to India ever since with Salman as the host. Interestingly, he was introduced to Lulia by her then boyfriend, Marius Moga, and later, helped her get over him. Buzz is that it's been a year of their affair and he may tie the knot with her.
