DDLJ was path breaking in the sense that it opened the markets outside India for Bollywood...USA, Canada and Europe ...all received a much needed push after DDLJ...that's why it is considered path breaking...not for the movie itself...

and isn't DDLJ overrated ? 😛😆the reasons u r giving here for DDLJ ...sholay has much much more reasons to be the best , path breaking and epic movie of the BOLLYWOODand its not about anyone's personal liking or dislikingif current generation won't like mother india or Guide , if they will find these movies boring , it does not mean these movies were not path breaking or bad movies or overrated

To judge if a film is path breaking you need to judge its impact on cinema, on audiences. Its not just about the content. There are many films which may not be the bestest films ever in terms of content or even storytelling but made a huge impact.
Sholay is one. Bachcha bachcha aaj bhi dialogues jaanta hai, knows the characters, the scenes. It's been like 40-50 years or something now. How can you say a film didn't stand the test of time if people still remember the film, it's dialogues, scenes, and ape it till this day even? Watch a popular desi TV show, I guarantee at some point Dharmendra's chakki peesing scene will be aped. Just recently Katrina did the scene in some film of hers. Overrated is one thing, but impact is another.
DDLJ was a path-breaking love story for its time. First, NRI characters. Then, prior to that there hadn't been a love story where the guy and girl did not a) run away to be together b) sacrifice their love for the good of the family and wait for some miracle aka the dog/destiny to save their love story. Plus, it opened up international markets for Indian cinema. Today these films may not seem "different' but that's because we have seen so many versions of it by now.
Not sure what LSD is doing there honestly. Perhaps Khosla Ka Ghosla would be better, though not really.
