I'm a bad son says Abhay Deol

Abhay Deol is the latest Bollywood actor to jump onto the small screen bandwagon. The 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' and 'Shanghai' star will be seen hosting 'Connected Hum Tum', the Indian version of the international reality show 'Connected'.

Considering that he's been around in B'town for a long while, what took him so long to turn towards television? "It was not about the time. I never thought of hosting a show before as I wasn't offered the right one. I'm sure even if my brothers were offered this show they would have done it," said Abhay when we caught up with him at the launch. And while there is a tendency in TV, as in Bollywood, to repeat a formula once it proves successful, Abhay says this show is different.

Sharing more details about the show's concept, Abhay said, "It's about six women from small towns who have to capture their life on camera. They chose what to show on camera; it is their choice what they want to share."

Ask Abhay which women he'd like to capture on camera on he laughs: "Well definitely not my girlfriend — because then I would be on camera as well. I would say my mom or my sister because I hardly get to see them. I'm a bad son… the other woman I'd like to see would be Sonia Gandhi."

Abhay says he is yet to start shooting for the show, but hopes it will help bring about a change in perspective, "At the end of the day, I do like the format, so I am not worried about whether it's a hit or not. Even if two people change, watching the show, that is great. As the host of the show, I intend to leave the audience with how I perceive the women through my lens! I will raise questions that will make them think."

On another note, we quizzed the actor about preferring to maintain a low profile, and he replied, "There are people who have the right kind of publicists to bombard the media, and the media too can be manipulated. I'm not armed in that area."
