Yana Gupta's ad campaign for PETA
By Swati R Chaudhary, glamsham.com

Yana GuptaThink Yana Gupta, think groovy item numbers! Yana's popularity scaled heights after gyrating to 'babujee' where she was seen riding a buffalo. The Czechoslovakian beauty, a contender for People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has just finished shooting for an ad campaign, shot by Atul Kasbekar. "It's time we generate awareness and take action against the ill-treatment meted out towards animals. The street bears don't dance on their own. They are made to dance and they suffer in pain. It's very traumatizing and something has to be done", says Yana effusively.

"Bears are trained to dance through a regime of pain and starvation. They are forced to dance for money in India by madaris as a form of begging. Barely a year old, bear cubs have a rope forced through their nose and most of their teeth are pulled out without any painkillers. This is an extremely painful process: The bear is held down by a group of men while an iron needle, heated in a coal fire, is forced through the squealing animal's nose. No anesthetic is used for this" says a PETA activist.

Under the Indian Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, it is illegal to capture and trade bears in India. However, this law is blatantly ignored, and bears can still be seen in the streets of India. The madaris earn their income by making the bears dance for up to 12 hours a day.

The ad has a fake bear with a message saying, "Bears are not item numbers". The main message of the ad is that the bears shouldn't be tortured merely for the sake of entertaining people. There is another PETA ad where she'll be wearing clothes designed by Rocky S.
