Murder 3 First Day Business

Saturday 16th February 2013 11.00 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Murder 3 had a low first day of 3.50-3.75 crore nett which is almost 50% less than the previous Murder film Murder 2 which grossed nearly 7 crore nett on day one when released in 2011.

Murder 3 did not pick up from the start it had in the morning and therefore will struggle for much growth over the weekend. The film has collected low figures all across the country.

Jayantabhai Ki Love Story is a very dull performer at the box office with collections around the 50 lakhs mark. Another Vivek Oberoi starrer released a few months Kismet Paisa Love Delhi had similar figures on day one.

Murder 3 First Day Box Office Collection

Murder 3 has collected around 4.5 crore nett all India on Friday at the box office as per estimates. Murder 3 started slowly on Morning shows on opening day. After that collections showed jump from Noon shows onwards, Evening and Night shows were decent enough, which helped it to collect an average first day at the box office.

Murder 3 first day collection is much lower in comparison to Murder 2 first day collection. Murder 3 will need good jump on Saturday and Sunday to collect a decent figure for the weekend. Reports are mixed from audiences. It has registered an occupancy of around 30-35% for the day which is below par than expected.

Murder 3 Movie Review. Ratings - 3.5/5.

Everyone had this one complain before the release of Murder 3 – Why is Emraan Hashmi not a part of Murder 3? Of course it's difficult to imagine the Murder series without Emraan. But I still had good expectations from the film because Bhatts are more than capable of delivering a great film without the known faces. Also, Vishesh Bhatt (Son of Mukesh Bhatt) on whose name the Vishesh Films banner is being named was taking the responsibility of directing it and I was curious to see how he takes the legacy forward with his debut film.

I personally liked both Murder and Murder 2. Concept wise both were strikingly different from one another with two common factors - Emraan Hashmi and outstanding music. Murder 3 again is completely different from its predecessors as far as the concept is concerned but this time the common links Emraan and outstanding music is missing. Disappointed? Well your disappointment will last a bit longer as you will find Murder 3's first half pretty flat. Vishesh Bhatt tries to build the base for the second half in its entire first half but fails miserably in its execution. Poor dialogues and uninspiring performances makes it even looks more purposeless. But, now the turning point - The second half. I have never in my movie watching career seen such a turn around. From the first scene (in the second half) where Aditi Rao Hydari appears the movie does not have even a single dull moment. With every frame and scene the graph of the film just shows an uphill trend. The concept is different (It's an official Bollywood remake of the Colombian thriller The Hidden Face). The direction is superb. The performance of Aditi Rao Hydari is outstanding. The way the scenes are shot and the way story unfolds is a marvel in the suspense/thriller genre. Few moments in the second half are so brilliantly executed that you might find yourself almost on the edge of your seats which is quite rare these days. If the first half would have been executed better this film could well have gained a cult status. And honestly after watching the second half the first half doesn't seem to be as big a disappointment as you would think it to be at the intermission.

In the acting department the film completely belonged to Aditi Rao Hydari. Wow! Her performance just enhances the thrills in the movie. Take a bow Aditi! Randeep Hooda is good. Sara Loren is just about OK.

The Murder series is remembered the most for its Music. Remember "Bheege hont tere" from Murder and "Phir Mohabbat" from Murder 2? Surprisingly this time the Bhatts fail to produce a smashing hit album. But to be frank this film could have done without music too. Second half has no scope for songs at all. Still, "Teri Jhuki Nazar" stands out among all the songs.

Murder 3 has a very intriguing concept. I wish it had a more interesting and engrossing first half. But even with a below average first half I would strongly recommend (I enjoyed the second half thoroughly) it to you all and specially to the lovers of suspense/thriller and even horror genre. Watch it for its thrills, suspense, concept, Aditi's performance and direction.

Have a Murderous weekend!

P.S. -- Since it's a remake as I have mentioned earlier I give the entire credit to the execution part i.e. for the direction and performances and not for the writing.

P.S. – Be patient throughout the first half.

Directed by – Vishesh Bhatt
Cast – Randeep Hooda, Aditi Rao Hydari and Sara Loren
Ratings - 3.5 Stars

Murder 3 Review

Murder 3 Movie Review by Indicine critic Joginder Tuteja

'These guys indeed know how to tell a murderous tale' – That's what one ends up exclaiming the moment last shot of Murder 3 is seen on screen. A thoroughly engaging affair that makes you nod in agreement with the choice of subject that first timer Vishesh Bhatt has made for his directorial outing, the film not just lives up to the huge expectations that one has from the Murder franchise, it also makes one think of the kind of ideas that time and again get a green signal from the Bhatt camp. No wonder, Murder 3 entertains, shocks and makes you rub your eyes in disbelief as the drama unfolds.

However before one starts believing that all is perfectly well with Murder 3, here is an observation. The film comes on it's own only in the second half. In fact the entire first hour of the film, if seen in isolation without stepping into the second hour, 'seems' plain ordinary. Yes, once the second hour starts unfolding, everything about the hour gone by starts making sense. In fact, a lot of sense! However for that, one has to be really patient till the interval card flashes.

Murder 3 ReviewMurder 3 Review

This means right from the opening shot where Aditi Rao Hydari disappears from the scene to the instant love that develops between Randeep Hooda and Sara Loren to the police investigation – just about everything appears not just haphazard but even half baked. (Spoilers ahead) It is just impossible to believe the manner in which Randeep and Sara come together or the latter turning out to be dumb enough to follow him or the mysterious ways in which Randeep talks or a distracting angle about a cop expressing his feelings for Sara. Frankly, after a point there is a sense of disengagement that starts setting in. Of course there are spooky moments thrown in between which leads to some level of intrigue but then constant flip-flop in proceedings tends to make one a little impatient.

However the turnaround takes place a few minutes into the second half, and how. The twist in the tale is amazingly established and the 40 minutes that follow bring the film into third, fourth and the fifth gear with the kind of fervour that one was waiting for all this while. Really, it is one of the best second halfs to have come out of a Bollywood film. Of course the storyline is an official adaptation of a Spanish film but that doesn't matter at all as Vishesh along with his team of technicians makes sure that the tension continues to build with every passing minute before a double twist in the tale during the penultimate moments make Murder 3 the kind of film that is unique indeed.

Aditi Rao Hydari stands tall in this show that actually belongs to her, regardless of her actual presence or absence on the scene. She gets the emotions right, whether in the vulnerable or romantic junctures of the film. Not just that as the kind of subtle humour that she brings on screen is a treat that makes one smile even in the moments that could have otherwise become too heavy. Randeep Hooda plays his part well though one wonders why his character had to sound so mystereious in the very first place. He gets it right though as an actor who can be entrusted for a lead role. Sara Loren is truly attractive and plays her part well in a role that requires her to bring different shades. In fact at places she also reminds one of the kind of characterisation that Bipasha Basu had in Raaz.

The film carries a polished look throughout though editing seems a little jerky in the first half. Music, though pleasant indeed, seems like a distraction and one wouldn't have minded had this been a songless affair. Background music by Bhatt regular Raju Singh is fantastic though and aids the film's narrative in a big way, especially the second half.

A big win for the franchise comes from the fact that it presents a cocktail of drama, emotions, horror and (of course) erotica really well, hence making Murder 3 yet another good film to be unleashed by Bollywood this year. Moreover, after one is through watching the film, even the first half starts sounding a lot more enjoyable as you connect the dots. In the times when there are films that claim to tell a story from 'two different point of views' and hardly end up making an imprssion, Murder 3 is a case study on how it is actually done while taking the audience in confidence and not taking their intelligence for granted.

At the box office the film has started on a slow note which is surprising since as a franchise, Murder holds a good recall value. However due to it's inherent merits, it may pick up during the weekend. There is continued competition from Special 26 as well as ABCD but controlled costs should bring Murder 3 past the safety mark.

Go for it.

Rating: ★★★☆

MURDER 3 Picks Up In Evening Shows

"Murder 3" started slowly in the morning and it seems that film will not post respectable total on day one. But somewhat positive word of mouth and decent reviews helped film to make a comeback.

"Murder 3" improved in multiplexes especially in Mumbai and UP in evening. Collections were up across the table and occupancy rose from 25% in morning to 45% in evening. Few multiplexes were even better though single screens were not so great in south and east.

Film's intresting plot, successful franchise and Bhatts' brand name pushed the film and as per early estimates, film should collect 4.25 crnett on day one depending on the late night shows which are plenty in numbers.

"Murder 3" should grow over the weekend and 15-17 cr nett will be an ideal result for the film.
