I had seen the movie before but that was long back and hence I forgot most of it...but watching it again made me realize how great the movie was...those who haven't seen it, here's a brief summary
Meenakshi Seshadri was the lead actress who portrayed the character of Damini...a middle class girl getting married to Rishi Kapoor's character Shekhar (love marriage). Her in-laws aren't the supportive kind due to her background but she makes friends with the house made Urmi.
Urmi gets raped during the holi celebration in their house...by 4 guys, one being Shekhar's own brother. Damini and Shekhar see this happening but couldn't save the girl in time. She is sent to hospital in very bad condition...Damini is stopped from meeting her in hospital as cops are keeping a tab on the family.
The family puts pressure on Damini to stop from being an eye witness to save the family honour...but later she agreed to be one after seeing Urmi in bad condition and her own conscious telling her to be truthful. Her family kicks her out of the house and all that stuff blah blah. She later meets Sunny Deol's character Govind who helps her get justice..meanwhile Urmi is killed in hospital.
So throughout the movie I couldn't help but kept thinking about the Delhi rape victim. I felt the movie was well made with such great social message...and as far as I heard it was a success, means lot of people have watched it. Now when people see these kinda movies...they surely do get the message but even now in 2012 these incidents happen.
I have to ask a question though that since Delhi victim was rapes by poor people hence she got justice but if this incident is done by a rich brat who has his father to back him up...will the laws be as strict or will they get away because of corruption and power??
The movie did have a closure where justice was served to the victim but again that's a movie...can justice like this be served in real world??
Bollywood makes so many remakes...all crappy ones...cant they remake a movie like this now...when such incidents still happen, it will be helpful in passing on a great message
Also I have to just add that Sunny and Meenakshi were absolutely brilliant in this movie 👏.
The taarikh dialogue was just EPIC
