It will be one twist after the other and you would wish the drama ends even before it starts

I always see Mr Bachchan as the manipulative ,opportunist and vicious man.

His friendships with Gandhis,Amar Singh and Ambanis were all for his own benefit.
Once his purpose is fulfilled he dumps them like a hot potato.

Thanks for the info.

So that Big B guy behind it?

Javed definitely seems way more shrewd and diplomatic than Salim. If the instances are true then it is really bad, whatever he did to the man who introduced him to industry.

The end of this partnership is really unfortunate.

Salim seems really bitter and disillusioned. Javed doesn't mention Salim except in programs about their films, where he alone gives interviews and insights on how they wrote the characters. I wonder if Salim is never called to such programs or he himself does not go.

Rumours sound confusing. Some say they had rift due to Javed's closeness to Shabana Azmi! Others say Javed used to write everything whereas Salim used to give only suggestions for improvements and he put his name alongside in credits, only because it was he who had introduced Javed to industry. Lot of hearsay and stories flow about the duo and their split.

I did not mean Big B is the man behind the split... I meant his name figures prominently in the Salim Javed saga.
While watching Salims's interview, you can make out that he is bitter and disllusioned with AB Sr. He did talk abt that for a while and he did seem upset because of the snub.
Yeah. Javed definitley comes across more diplomatic, i guess thats why he has lasted this long in the industry. He is more politically connected too and loves the attention he gets from the media and the fraternity.

Amitabh says sorry to Salim Khan

MUMBAI MIRROR Aug 25, 2010, 12.00am IST

The actor apologized to the peeved screenwriter, who felt that Big B never acknowledged his 'angry young man' invention

The 35-year celebrations of Sholay came with a bitter aftertaste for amitabh bachchan when Salim Khan in an interview accused the star of never giving the writer his due. Getting into action pronto the veteran star deemed it important to clarify any miscommunication.

Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar had together written some of the biggest movie of Big B's career charting the course to his stardom. Salim Khan remarked that the angry young man image of Big B was his creation - figments of which were gathered from his father's career as a policeman.

He also remarked that he is willing to sort out differences but the actor does not see anything to sort out at all. To this Amitabh has responded, "Salim saheb is absolutely right.

It was he and Javed saheb who gave me Zanjeer and recommended me to Prakash Mehra and to so many other directors of the time – Manmohan Desai, Yash Chopra, Ramesh Sippy.

I have never ever failed to acknowledge this fact. Indeed in the early years of my career, when I was questioned what would happen to me if Salim-Javed were to stop writing for me, I had categorically stated that I would also stop and finish," he says. "Their contribution has been immense in my film career and I will never stop accepting that.

I am extremely sorry if Salim saheb has felt otherwise. I wish to apologise to him and tell him that there has obviously been a miscommunication and that he should never feel that I have thought otherwise. He has been a respected senior for me and shall always remain one," he adds.

Speaking of his legacy, inherited from the Salim-Javed era of filmmaking, and whether the younger generation matched up to his phenomenal success, the Big B added, "Films are not some kind of a kingdom where one looks for a successor.

Every artiste is big and important in their own world, especially the younger generation. I have admired them all.

They all have their distinct identities and are doing extremely well. No one should be bracketed as wanting to emulate someone. That is wrong. They must be left alone to set their own standards and marks," adds the 67-year-old actor.

If one were to dispassionately analyse / guess what could have happened in Salim-Javed saga, and not get swept by the maze of who seems shrewd, who appears modest etc...

...its pretty obvious, Javed was the major contributor as long as their partnership lasted. It is so obvious from whatever they both have come up with ever since they parted ways!

Javed has come up with so many brilliant scripts apart from number of most memorable songs. It would be pretty naive to conclude Javed continued scaling new heights because he was shrewd while Salim merely sulked over separation and retreated into his shell!

Logic would suggest, both were very close friends and had a partnership where Salim did contribute many ideas, but Javed, must have been the one who was the actual master when it came to actual writing and fine tuning the screen play.

Salim might have suggested the Angry young man character of Amitabh in Zanzeer and perhaps thats why, he suggested Amitabh should give him his due. Salim actually might have written the scene where Amitabh Bacchhan tosses Madan Puri out of the high rise window in DEEWAAR...as I just watched NAAM, a movie Salim wrote independently and has Sanjay Dutt tossing out villain exactly in same manner, (perhaps Salim's way of emphasising, it was HE, who came up with this idea / script portion in Deewar).

Success of Gulzar and Javed is because they have been able to keep up with times and keep re-inventing themselves. I can give examples of how they have changed with varied kind of work, but thats not required I suppose.

Fact is most creative persons, unless gifted with an ability to keep adapting and re-inventing themselves, meet a creative dead end and thats the end of them! So many authors you can see, who have written a brilliant debut novel and thereafter, either come up with some terrible work, or have not been able to contribute anything at all! Brilliant Directors fail to recreate the magic in so many instances!

If Salim Saab could keep pace with times and keep adapting to the drastically changed movie tastes today, there is no reason he could not have written some scripts for his sons, who are doing booming business with in their own production banner...or written a few Salman films with his influence!

Logical conclusion would be as it is Salim Saab must have been the minor contributor in Salim-Javed partner ship and after their split, he did come up with a few scripts like Akeyla, Naam, Mast Kalandar, Majhdhaar (for Salman), ...but it was pretty obvious,he had met a creative dead end...and since mid nineties, has been enjoying a retired life...proudly watching his sons, especially Salman scale heights of unprecedented Box office success, especially in last few years!

@Cruiser

Brilliant! 👏

I agree with a lot of points. Salim's work done alone in later stages was definitely inferior to the work done in past and not in sync with times. Even now he gives improvisations in old-fashioned masala films like Dabangg mainly.

I was more curious about what led to their split. Could it be because Javed wanted more creative freedom? Or because Javed and Salim started having too many differences since he's old school kind whereas Javed tries to change as per new/emerging trends?

Lot of theories float about their split.

Though I do not like Javed as a personality (love his work but dislike his public persona), I do see him acknowledge Salim whenever he describes his experiences working on their iconic films. In a special on Mother India in Classic Legends program, he described how he and Salim saab were inspired by Birju in shaping angry young man persona of their films.
