No, not really. Kumar Sanu ruled the music world for an entire decade - from 1990 to 1999. He did work with other directors too. The biggest reason for his downfall was the genre he sang for - ghazal-based songs and R&B. Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam, and even Abhijeet - his three strongest contemporaries were experimenting with all sorts of genres. Sonu and Udit sing even today. Kumar Sanu was labeled as the romantic, soulful singer. His last song from the late 90s that I remember was Ab tere dil mein hum aa gaye from Aarzoo - 1999. He did sing songs here and there later, but faded away eventually.

hmmm he didnt worked with Ar Rehman till yet i think...most of his songs was kinda same nadeem sharavan style i dont think he had experiments with other genres as much ...dats wht i was saying :)...Sonu Nigam is still their because of his versatility he can catch up any genre be it ghazal qawali..classical semi calssical...bhajan..naat...westren english rock pop etc etc...Kumar Sanu had many songs with anu malik and viju shah as well .but i think main reason was with Nadeem Sharavan as they were the only one who used kumar sanu's talent to the best ...even udit is less seen these days recently he sang radha only half of the part :(
