When I first watched the movie, I thought the same. I actually always cringe when people say, "Tu kare toh chamatkar, main karu toh balatkar." It just always feels so.. inappropriate. The term "balatkar" is used so lightly, and even in 3 Idiots they did the same. It goes same for the people who use the term "rape" to acknowledge something they are doing repeatedly like, "I raped the replay button" or "I raped the like button." I just don't get it... What does doing something repeatedly relate to sexual assault? I am sure these people aren't engaging in nonconsensual sexual intercourse with inanimate objects.

The overall concept of the words being edited in that 3 Idiots scene is humourous, but I wish they hadn't used the term balatkar. Eh. I hope the term isn't taken lightly anymore.

Word. Youtube users are the worst offenders in this respect.

i found tht scene quite offensive too...i hate it when words like Balaatkar or rape are trivialized...

i was watching the movie the other day on tv and it had subtitles which refereed to the words as "screwed" (for balaatkaar) instead of "served"(for chamatkaar)...tht sounded so much better for some reason...

now screwed is not necessarily a "good" term...but its certainly better than using raped because it has broader implications and dosent trivialize a criminal act of this magnitude...they could have used something on the lines of that (like band bajaana, waat lagaana etc...those arent "civilized" terms but atleast they serve the purpose of being "light" and not being embarassing or derogatory towards victims)

i agree on the youtube users comment...such comments are also used on cricket and even bollywood videos...like "actor X is raping actor Y right now" or "Team X is raping Team Y in cricket"...or some of the people at my uni are like "oh i raped tht exam" or "i got raped by that exam"...and "rape" here means domination im guessing or defeating them by a huge margin or owning...i mean what the shit...🤢

i really dont understand the use of such a strong term for something soo silly...

i still cannot forget a song i watched on padman khanna: husn ke lakho rang, kaun sa rang dekhoge.

so gruesome, i shivered.

as for 3 idiots getting censored, why are we even asking this now? and where do we draw the lines?
its all over.
good topic btw...

I think because it had big stars and because that movie came out when no such incident like this happened..since the delhi case government is looking at scape goats rsther than blaming there system..regarding honey singh no one hardly knew on that song and currently we dont know whether he sang it or not ...they just leeching him on a song they said he sang ages ago!! The system just blaming the entertainment industry and other things!! Like banning his concert will change anything!!

Because the names Aamir Khan, Raju Hirani are associated with it.

Put a Salman or Akshay in that film, and that scene, that most people I know died laughing in, would be trashed...because of the kind of films they do, people judge differently. Sad but true.

Its not about 'scapegoats'. Its about containing misogyny in popular culture; the mindset and 'acceptance' of demeaning attitudes towards women needs to be changed as MUCH as the law & order situation.
