Why didn't 3 Idiots get censured?

Something just popped into my mind while reading the news about Honey Singh being forced to call off his concert in Bristol in the wake of petitions against his sexist lyrics.

I immediately remembered the "balaatkar" speech from 3 Idiots...and my whole body cringed at the memory of those appalling words. Now that I think of it, how come it didn't raise a storm? Were/Are we really THAT apathetic to ignore people making fun of RAPE?😕

Just imagine what some sexually assaulted woman would feel after watching that scene. It'd be hell revisited for her. I was always uncomfortable with that scene and always muted it or changed channels when the movie premiered on Television channels.

Rape is psychological murder. Joking about it is as funny as joking abut a mass murder or the Holocaust.

Still, the topic of rape itself is a painful and dehumanizing one. It should'nt be used as a trope for comedy in ANY form.

people have now finally woken up to understand the full true implications of the word - balatkaar . n that is y...now it sounds really bad. But when the movie had come out..at that time..it was not considered that offensive and moreover...in local hindi lingo..esp in UP, NCR, haryana...balatakaar , rape is also used as a slang to indicate that u have been highly insulted or demeaned.

I have heard many college kids say...ki yaar aaj exam paper ne mera rape kar diya...saale tera toh khuleaam balatkaar ho gaya! even in my offc..i have heard ppl say ki aaj toh bahut kaam kara diya boss ne...saala aisa lag raha hai meri izzat ka rape karega !
Ppl use it v casually at times..even though whenever i hear this word being so casually..it makes me cringe...but then ur considered old-world when u tell some1 to not use that word so casually.
Thankfully to this case now...poeple will refrain from using it soo casually. I can only Hope!

When I first watched the movie, I thought the same. I actually always cringe when people say, "Tu kare toh chamatkar, main karu toh balatkar." It just always feels so.. inappropriate. The term "balatkar" is used so lightly, and even in 3 Idiots they did the same. It goes same for the people who use the term "rape" to acknowledge something they are doing repeatedly like, "I raped the replay button" or "I raped the like button." I just don't get it... What does doing something repeatedly relate to sexual assault? I am sure these people aren't engaging in nonconsensual sexual intercourse with inanimate objects.

The overall concept of the words being edited in that 3 Idiots scene is humourous, but I wish they hadn't used the term balatkar. Eh. I hope the term isn't taken lightly anymore.

As much as I love 3 Idiots the film, I did find sthan and balatkar jokes highly embarassing and tasteless. I still wonder why such creative minds like Raju Hirani, Abhijat Joshi, VVC and Aamir Khan couldn't come up with any other better words to even put across their intended message. The Dubey ji character and Aamir cupping their hands around their chests while talking about "sthan" was also cheap.

It is sad how people use "rape" very commonly. Filmi fans also claim a film "raped" the box office when a film becomes hugely successful. Rape is used in two contexts - epic insult and completely marauding/conquering something. Though we don't think about it but this is what a rapist does to his victim - shows off his power, renders victim helpless and terrorised.

3I speech was not as bad as Honey Singh's songs. But it was offensive. Maybe because names as credible as Raju Hirani and VVC were involved so it escaped the Censorship.

Most of the times we don't realise how commonplace rape jokes, vulgar cuss words have become. Without realising their meanings even girls use dirty language which alludes to rape or private parts of a woman's anatomy.

People used such language in real life, later it became commonplace on internet, now filmmakers only incorporate such stuff claiming they tried to show realistic portrayal of youth!

It's all crass and needs to be stopped! You might ignore abusive people on streets but movies and songs make anything more widespread! They need to show some restraint!

being honest i was disgusted at the scene- did not find it funny at all! it was highly offensive and definitely a woman who has been through it-it would have been like hell for her once again! There is a thin line between witty and offensive- 3 idioits certainly crossed that. And the thing keeping our society going-DOUBLE STANDARDS-of course it didn't get censored but when PC had some bold scenes in fashion in similar time- OMFG! censor censor!

the government and censor board need to WAKE UP!

and please stop these yester years actors and now mommy daddy of famous actors from being in censor board- f**king biased!
