Hey guys..This is actually my first post.Have been a silent reader or rather cyber stalker for quite sometime:D I watched English Vinglish today and was compelled to make this topic.,I know this topic has been beaten to death and many have already gushed bout it.But please bear with me.How awesome was the movie..Sheer brilliance👏Such a simple subject dealt with such sensitivity.Am amazed its Gauri Shinde's directorial debut.Honestly there have been quite a few times i have mocked my mom,may be not for her english speaking skills but for some other things.I thought it was all in good humour but this was the first time it struck me that she might have probably got hurt as much as Shashi or maybe more. The final speech was just so endearing and so full of heart. And yeah, hats off to Sridevi. Its a huge understatement if i say she was brilliant. It was one of the most natural performances i have seen.I really really hope she wins all the awards next year. Aur haan the chemistry between Sri and the French guy requires special mention..I have seen many fans going gaga over certain couples' chemistry in shows which only consist of stupid and filmy eyelocks, fall catch and dupatta flying scenes. Thats not wrong u know.I should'n be judgmental as Shashi says.Par i honestly felt these two surpass everyone else. The guy's character was extremely endearing and the subtlety with which emotions were conveyed and more importantly the emotional connect between the two was amazing.Am sure every single viewer at some point wanted the two to get together😳 though the feeling might be short-lived. Anyways, enough of my rambling.Hope to hear the thoughts of others as well😊

Count me in as an EV lover too. This is the power of a well written script, a lucid and understandable and sympathetic plot, and roles written for and cast with people rather than glorified blow up sex dolls.
The fact that it didn't pretend that women die once they are past 25 and that no one likes or wants to see them alive anymore and that nothing interesting happens to them can only help to open up (for a few people at least---and every little bit helps!) the possibility of looking at roles for adult women differently, as a whole.
Sridevi played a role that only Sridevi, at this age could play, and NOT a role that would be best suited for Sridevi---but only were she 30 years younger.

Amazing movie, haven't seen before, just watched today, some scenes just touched my heart, that cafe scene where sridevi couldn't order a sandvich n coffee... must watch for today's YO YO Generation... we all have mocked our parents in childhood UN-intentionally many times, when u grow up u realize what u have done... so just hug ur parents n say sorry... sridevi did the role brilliantly... gauri shinde's direction more realistic... 👏

@youknowme Exactly. You put it really well.I hope this paves the way for mature and well written films which give ample scope to some of the comparatively older actresses like Mads, Juhi,Kajol,Karishma etc..Aur haan most importantly i hope some of the current crop of actresses get inspired and understand what it is to give an awesome performance

Ah finally I watched the movie on Zee Cinema today. Usually a movie which is hyped as good is killed for me. That happenned to an extent with EV too as just a few weeks back I was discussing the movie with some members and knew all the twists and turns.
Nevertheless it was a well-made movie. Sridevi was in top form. The overhyped Kareena, PC and Rani should learn from her the A, B, Cs of acting.
Special mention from my side too to the chemistry between Sri and the French actor. First Kahaani and then EV taught us that chemistry always need not be between conventionally accepted pairs.
