KSBKBT FF: The broken ties Part1 : The revenge Pg1
So we have two wholesale chains Costco and Sams looking to expand their business. Sams identifies a property at an ideal location. Since Sams is leasing property from the same builder at another two locations they do a deal together for all 3 properties together. When Costco approaches the builder for the same property they realize Sams has already leased the prime property they were eyeing. So what option does Costco have now?
-Bully the builder to lease out the property which has been leased out to someone else?-The above doesnt work so drag Sams to court for violating anti-trust laws?-Look for a different property in another prime location?-Lease the property behind Sams but give attractive offers to customers so that the customers prefer Costco to Sams?Ajay is taking the first two options when a smart businessman would have taken the next two options.
Your argument works only if there are other properties left to lease with equal revenue value. In this case - it is more like a hotel industry. Seats are fixed, time bound and revenue is fixed. I still say that Yashraj used monopolistic practices.
As for the court judgment - unfortunately, most commissions in this country are
a. corrupt
b. go with whoever is more powerful.
Take a look at what Anil Ambani has done to the electricity rates in Mumbai. He bought out BSES, took a monopolistic position and raised the prices. Can the customer do anything? get a competitor in?
Sorry - but in today's India, baring a few supreme court judges - all are up for sale.
I still believe Ajay - but I don't plan to watch either movie.
^ no idea what he did when - I got the impression he had filed the complaint much earlier.
YRF are cutthroat - probably the only way to be in this business. I recall frosty relations with SRK for a while before Chak De. I vaguely remember reading about SRK asking for distribution rights overseas and not getting it.
They had to go back to him after their other films bombed. The difference between YRF during Yashji's early years and now is that most actors produce their own films and sell it directly to the distributor. It won't be as easy for them to sign up big stars anymore without offering them considerable profit sharing options.
Ajay and Rohit Shetty are the small guys making big. Veeru Devgn must have worked for Yash Raj at some point. I bet he feels great watching his son produce his own movies.
Interesting.
