Sup everyone! I usually do my box office predictions on Sunday midnights (Canadian time) but due to the unfortunate circumstances surrounding Yashji, I decided not to write my predictions yesterday out of respect for Yashji. I know many (including me) are still sad, but hopefully this week's films and my predictions for them can get our minds off of the sad stuff for a while 😊
There are 3 films coming this week, and one of them is the Emraan Hashmi starred RUSH. RUSH was supposed to release on Wednesday (Dussehra), but now has been postponed to Friday (near Bakri Eid). As Komal Nahta said, RUSH was in no "rush" to release their film, hence why they moved to Friday. It would have been the clash of the SHANGHAI stars (Emraan vs Abhay) if the film released on Wednesday, but now instead it's going to be Emraan vs Jackky.
Emraan Hashmi has built a huge fan following for himself amongst the masses over the years. Sure, he did have super-successful films like MURDER (2004) and JANNAT (2008) in the past, but it has been the last few years that has taken him to that next level. ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI, MURDER 2, THE DIRTY PICTURE (it was Vidya's film, but Emraan can be credited for luring in the audiences to watch the film), JANNAT 2, and the recent Blockbuster RAAZ 3, have all proved to be successful or super-succesful. Now comes the next film starring Emraan Hashmi, RUSH.
RUSH has had to deal with a lot of trouble pre-release. The film was being directed by Shamin Desai, but after he unfortunately passed away, his wife Priyanka Desai had to take over as director for the film.
In terms of hype generated from the promos, one can see that there are two things in the film that are usually there in other Emraan Hashmi films too: having hot scenes with a girl (a kissing scene has already been seen between him and Neha) and getting chased by gun men. Also, the "Fukre" song and to some extent "Chup Chup Ke" have been well-promoted. However, other than that, the the theatrical trailer and other promos haven't created much buzz. There doesn't seem to be much new to offer to the audiences. The film has a somewhat similar feeling to Emraan's flop film CROOK. Also, given the sudden change that they had to make (director being replaced), and that too when the director is a first-timer, there are chances of the film not being liked. So, there are chances that the content of RUSH may not be up to the mark (in terms of quality) for the audience. Although, there may also be those who like the film. Overall, I think the film will have a mixed word of mouth.
In terms of opening, given the fact that Emraan Hashmi has box office power and is coming off from fresh from the Blockbuster RAAZ 3, and that there will be Bakri-Eid festivities this weekend, the film will pack a solid punch in it's opening weekend. Single screens will be better, as Emraan has huge fan following amongst masses. Also, the popularity of the "Fukra" song will get the film a good opening in North India. Not sure about the costs of the film, so it's kind of hard to guess what the overall box office verdict will be for the film.
