When you meet someone for at work outside your home its unprofessional to call address them as Aunty / Uncle. Aishwayra and Sonam have exactly 12 years difference. Aishwarya is not even related to her . I am sure Aishwarya has no issues being called Mami by her nieces and nephew.
Sonam was just trying to act smart. Hope we Sonam hear her call SRK, AK, SK, an even ABachchan Uncle.
Like someone said everyone is going to get old...What is the big deal.
The idea is to get there gracefully.

When I was a kid in India, I was taught that to be respectful I would call everyone older (i.e. close to parents age) uncle or aunty. It would be rude to call a friend's mom or a neighbor by their name. Times have changed and being old is no longer a sign of wisdom and respect. People, especially celebrities now crave to be young and prance around like teenage kids. It is insulting to be considered old. Hence no one wants to be called aunty anymore.

Because media loves drama and IF too!! Thats why this old topic is make? Lol do you really think Aishwarya would care if that someone would call her aunty lol 😉 Sure her nieces call her aunty too. What about the other names Aishwarya is called her on IF and in the media, lol? Aishwarya must get upset hundred times then!! It is was all media made up for sure?

As for calling someone aunty nothing wrong with it 😉

i think it's the way they say it or who says it that matter

i am sure Pooja or Aish wouldn't have cared if it was 5yrs old child calling them aunty but a full grown woman calling them aunty makes them feel old or rather reminds them of their age. Sometimes , truth is rather unpleasant.😉

Its not about the age difference...its about the image...when one is playing the lead actors in the movies ...they don't expect the others doing the same.. to call them Auntyji or Uncle ji...imagine Kat, Anushka, Deepika...calling Salman and Shahrukh Uncleji on the sets and then go and shoot a romantic scene with them..🤣

Again...I think that was another misquoted statement (not sure because I never got to hear to see the original clipping..only read the media stories here in the IF..)..I suppose she was talking about when she was a child...I think she even said the same thing for Rani during the Sawariya times and I remember Rani too fondly recollecting the times when Sonam was a kid when she worked with Anil...Now, Rani is a good 5 years younger than Aishwarya, isn't she?? If Sonam can call Rani aunty, why not Aishwarya...I mean at under 10 years practically everyone around you seem like aunties and uncles...I am sure she even called Salman, Sanjay etc as uncles...haha!

And somehow I guess this age thing is an issue more with women than with men...

If Sonam called her aunty now then its totally uncalled for...You don't call your colleagues at work uncles and aunties no matter how old they are to you...

Why can't Ranbir, Imran call Aamir, Saif, Salman, SRK, Akshay uncle? I think all these men would cringe at the thought...LOL! (IK calls Aamir: Aamir Mamu...never uncle! 😆)

oh please, Sonam has no relationship with Aishwarya. The only people you should be calling aunty or uncle are the ones related to you or your parent's friends or your own friend's mother or father.

Aunty has been turned into a demeaning, insulting term to make sure the other person gets called OLD and matronly. Sonam was just being a smart ass because she wanted to make sure everyone realizes Ash is old and not in her generation while she herself is very young. She was pissed and trying to insult her because she thought Ash had gotten her kicked out from going to Cannes for Loreal.

The only thing people older than you should be called is "ji" like Aishwarya ji or Salman ji. They are not your family members to be calling them aunties and uncles.

True,i dont like ash but calling her aunty when she only in mid 30's by a 20 something yr old is insulting. A kid saying that ok. Personally i only call those 50 and above who not related to me that. I instead would say didi as its more respecting to those unrelated and im in my twenties

yeh calling someone "aunty" in tht context is pretty derogatory...

u never see katrina/priyanka/kareena etc call Madhuri or sridevi "aunty" do u? "aunty" is a term u mostly use for ur family n friends...karan johar addresses Jaya B as "aunty" because hes close to her n the bacchans...but he addresses someone like waheeda rahman as waheeda ji...

woaaahhh so many assumptions- sonam said this, this is why she said it, this is how she feels!

so let me make my assumptions too- sonam never called ash aunty. that was ash pr crap! ash did kick her out of cannes the first time. it's not something someone made up! ash actually got insecured and acted all bitchy! 😛

I dont understand why Indians call every random person uncle or aunty. I have seen oldies call much younger people 'aunty' or 'uncle'. Its like trying to hide their own age so make someone else older. Its better to call someone 'sir' or 'madam' or 'ji' if you wish to give respect rather than 'aunty' or 'uncle'.
