The point is.. I have already made my point. Who was in India before Sikhism was even thought of? Who were the main group of people? As I've said before, Sikhism is only 300 years old whereas the other religions are much much older. There has been and always will be a footing of cultural and religious views of dominant religions in Punjab, no matter how much we try to deny it. You are right. Sikhism is opposed to the caste system. You are also right that some Sikhs still believe in the division of caste. But I am not representing the thoughts of Sikhs. I am talking about Sikhism itself. The original topic was about the degradation of Sikhs in BW movies with the latest one abuot Ajay Devgan playing a role of a Sikh man with the tatoo of a Hindu goddess on his chest and there might be Sikhs who sport similar tattoos BUT those Sikhs do NOT represent Sikhi views and that is what I am against.Originally posted by: guess_wh0
That would make sense except these practices happen in Punjab where the majority of the population is Sikh. Muslims don't do Rakhi or Karva Chauth, why do Sikhs?
The reason is Sikhism is majorly influenced by Hinduism. Sikh and Hindu inter-marriage is common. Sikh's and Hindu's don't think twice about visiting a temple or a gurudwara. Sikh's still get married under the Hindu Marriage act. Hell, all the Sikh saints were hindu. The two major thing's they opposed were idol worship and the caste system. Sadly, the caste system is more rampant in Sikhism today than Hinduism.
The biggest thing though is that Sikh's are converted Hindu's and not too long ago. The eldest son was made a Sikh in Punjab. There are still families that have one brother a Sikh and the others Hindu. This explains a lot of common surnames.
Its ignorant to hold such radical views in today's time and age.
