Yeah, I don't think Salman went around to producers telling them not to hire Vivek. Honestly, nobody does that. They have their own lives and careers to worry about. Vivek did lose films though because a lot of idiotic directors and producers probably on their own didn't want to piss off Salman. Maybe they thought Salman will work with them more easily if they stayed away from Vivek.

The biggest problem of all was Vivek's own arrogance. He was even offered films like Hum Tum by Aditya Chopra. If he made the wrong choices, it's his own fault. Even the press conference was out of arrogance. He wanted to show off to the world that he got Aishwarya. Yes, it helped Ash too but I think a big reason was he wanted to parade around that he got his trophy. He did the same in interviews. Constantly talked about Aishwarya being his lady and wanting to marry her and saying all sorts of stuff even though she wanted to keep it private. He wanted the glory that came from being with the "world's most beautiful" woman even though she didn't want it spread around.

Then he showed her off like a trophy even though she didn't like it and wanted things to be private. Ash too socially climbed her way up to Abhishek, the heir to the Bachchan family. Salman was abusive and destroyed her movie sets (leading her to get kicked out of movie) and caused her humiliation when he would go to her house in the middle of the night and knock on doors and scream his head off waking up all the neighbors. Neither one of the three were perfect little angels but Salman was the worst.

They look at the other person's qualifications, careers, incomes, how big their house is, what liabilities they have, and then they pick the one that has the best things possible. Exactly what Aish did on her own.

Ash being calculating doesn't excuse Salman's abusive persona. Salman going to Chalte Chalte's sets and destroying them is well known. There were so many witnesses. He also supposedly crashed his car into Ash's at some point. There were police complaints filed by her father for his behavior. Salman was/is a drunk who used to lie on the floor in Ash's van all day while she was filming Devdas. This stuff is all documented and seen by many.

Salman also has various legal cases in court, from running over people and crushing them to death to shooting endangered animals. How many normal girls would want to get mixed up with a guy like that? It makes total sense that Aish dumped him and wanted someone more stable.
