Decoding 'Cocktail', the Saif Ali Khan ' Deepika Padukone starrer about friendship, relationship and sex
The "Love Aaj Kal" team of Saif Ali Khan, Dinesh Vijan, Deepika Padukone and Imtiaz Ali (as a writer), is coming back together again. This time, it's for "Cocktail", directed by Homi Adjania.
Why the unusual title? The film's producer, Dinesh Vijan, explains, ""Cocktail" sums up the film. Love is the common ingredient in friendship, lust, forgiveness and happiness. So, if you get love right, the cocktail is perfect. The story of this film is about getting the ingredients just right."
Homi says, "Everywhere in India, the word cocktail is understood as a mix. We have juice cocktails, Diwali cocktails' you know, there's even a variant of khichdi called cocktail! As for this film, it is about three lives that get mixed, where passions are blended, shaken or stirred and relationships are merely cocktails of the human heart."
The film, shot in London and Cape Town, has three interesting and pivotal characters. It revolves around three friends ' Gautam (Saif), Veronica (Deepika) and Meera (Diana Penty, who debuts with this film). The freshness and energy of these characters and the language used is the film's USP. It is a romantic, fun film, and yet, it has an emotional connect.
Homi, who became the proud father of a second baby boy (they have named him Zane) on Sunday evening, adds, "The film is about three people, and the dynamics between them make it a beautiful relationship. All three of them make an ideal couple ' instead of two!
The relationship between Meera and Veronica is friendship, while that between Gautam and Meera and Gautam and Veronica is sexual. But when all three of them come together, they share an ideal relationship. "Cocktail" is my third baby after and Zane and Zreh (which means ocean in Persian)." Illuminati Films and Eros International bring "Cocktail" to you on July 13.
