Promo watch - GHOOM
<>document.write('Exclusive by Joginder Tuteja, ') IndiaGlitz [Friday, June 02, 2006]

How serious could a comedy-thriller get if one of its lead protagonists is shown in striped yellow/black socks with shorts worn under a yellow T-shirt and a black jacket, both seemingly straight out of a roadside shop, while the other is shown wearing a bike attire with pink shoes and a hair drier in a hand to match? And if we are told that the former plays a cop and the latter a super-thief on run, we know that the mother of all spoofs is in store with the arrival of 'GHOOM', an obvious sequel to 'DHOOM'!

With the lead characters straight out of 'Dhoom' in this short film made by MTV Fully Faltoo for the BIG screen, there is a lot of fun in store from the very first shot of the promo as the banner MTV FULLY FALTOO FILMS comes alive on the screen. With the logo borrowed from 20th Century Fox, the spoof begins right away as instead of arc lights, what you get to see is a horde of torch lights all around. The signature tune of 'DHOOM' is twisted a little to suit the mood of 'GHOOM' as each of the three prime characters in the film are introduced.

ONE DUMB COP - Sumeet Raghvan - who plays the role originally enacted by Abhishek Bachchan and tries to be all hip'n'cool

ONE STUPID THIEF - Ajay Gehi - who plays the most lovable villain ever, John Abraham and tries to be hot'n'happening

A LOSER RIDER - Gaurav Chopra - who plays Uday Chopra and tries to be the smartest of all

And together they make you go GHOOM!

With a can of COCA COLA brushing aside the film's title on a flash on the screen, you know the level to which the film tries to get spoofy and succeeds immensely in doing so so far!

Each of the shots from hereon reminds of the memorable sequences from 'Dhoom', be it the close up shots of the lead characters or the famous chase on the bike with the cop sitting behind the rider and chasing the thief. Shot on the streets of Mumbai, it gives a sense of instant deja vu as two bikes run parallel to a mini truck that seems to be the famous truck chase at the beginning of the film.

What is noticeable though is that inspite of the film being a spoof; there is no compromise on shot taking, inspite of the miniscule budget of this MTV production.

The action gathers heat, the pace picks up, the bikes run fast on roads, bullets fly and the trucks topple as Purbi Joshi's character is introduced who plays the character of Esha Deol in the original. She tries to be project herself as a hottie as the shots from her item song 'Ghoom' [an obvious takeover from 'Dhoom Machale'] are interspersed into the promo.

And as soon as the final shot of a lone bike disappearing to the far end of the road in darkness is shown, you know that this too is going to be a fun ride all the way. Final nail in the coffin comes in the form of the catch line 'MAKE WAY FOR THE MORONS' that says it all for the film's characters.
