Buddies and co-stars Kumar and Rawal turn co-producers for an adaptation of the latter's play. AK will play God (if only in character)!
They've been co-stars in countless films and now, close friends Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal, have teamed up to co-produce a film. Titled OMG Oh My God, Umesh Shukla is in the director's chair and the flick will be produced by Grazing Goat Pictures and Playtime Creationn. A Viacom18 Motion Picture release, OMG stars Paresh as the protagonist with AK making a special appearance as Lord Krishna.Kumar and Rawal fill us in on how they went from friends to business partners:
People say friendship and business don't mix. You have been friends for 20 years and are now business partners. Akshay Kumar (AK): Partnership is a deadly word. It means 'trust me.' The first time I met Paresh to ask him to co-produce the film, I asked him if he trusted me completely. I added that I'd be handling everything so he should only say yes if he thought I would do it the right way. I'd rather not enter into a partnership with Paresh than hamper our friendship of 20 years. Paresh Rawal (PR): I have known Akshay for many years and his dealings are straight.I like him because of his simplicity. I like the way Akshay lives his life, he's straight, minds his own work and is a family man. In a business association, one needs to feel secure first, profit comes later. I feel secure with him.
What made you decide to co-produce this film? AK: I have yet to come across someone who has seen Paresh's play Krishan Vs Kanhaiya and not liked it. The play isn't preachy but light-hearted. That is why, when I met Paresh I told him we should make this film.
PR: A thought behind the play (and the film) is the term 'God-fearing'. Why fear Him when you should love Him?
