Today's newcomers are so held back and diplomatic! And in today's times, due to explosion of media, stars usually try to remain politically correct - especially newcomers. Otherwise media (be it on TV or online), simply rips them apart.

This interview of Kareena is BEFORE the release of Refugee. In contrast, today's newcomers have to mouth praises for all actresses from past and present!

I prefer stars this way..honest, frank and forthright - saying things as they feel. Cine Blitz sections of old interviews (in print editions) are really amazing. It's hard to believe stars from 50s and 60s could be SO frank! Some of them have openly talked about their affairs, heartbreaks, rivalries, rift with family members, fallout with directors etc. And today, all that stars do is put up veneer of modesty & diplomacy!

I'm not at all a Salman fan. I don't like him, he's a very bad actor. I tell him that he hams all the time.
And how good an actress is she? she hammed big time in Khushi, K3G, MPKDH, MDK... the list goes on!😆 I know an old interview, but once you have said something like this on print, it cannot be wiped out.

Interviews today have become more orchestrated, and even controversial statements seem PR approved, or deliberate. It looks like things were different earlier, when actors spoke differently in their interviews.
At the same time, there is an element of nostalgia in my "things were different then". It is the corporate nature of film reportage today that annoys me, and films and film interviews were as geared towards making money then as they are now.

Such frank interviews only sound good from people like Nasserudinshah, who the hell is kareena to judge all these people?

Very true. But still they were more frank and less image-conscious than stars today - I mean, at least in their interviews or real life. Like this Rajendra Kumar had no qualms flirting with Sadhana despite being married and having kids! Or the much married Dev Anand flaunting his affair with Zeenat. I can't see any actor today, flaunting his extra marital affair and being totally unapologetic about it.

Nowadays people also talk, timing their interviews to get publicity around their soon to come projects. Earlier, they'd blurt out even if their films were not releasing! Though it's true that star interviews and gossip was as much about selling copies as it is about making money & getting eyeballs now.

Agreed.
I think television 24/7 and the internet change the manner in which your statements/actions are processed.
Now if you say/do something that becomes or is made controversial, it'll air on tv all day with sensational headlines, be discussed on FB and twitter, your FB/twitter account (if you have any) and your fan clubs will be full of messages on it, there will be people berating you for what you said/did and people congratulating you for your 'courage' in saying/doing it - it takes up far more mindspace than just sitting with a journalist, drinking and smoking, and telling them about your peccadilloes.

I'd blame it on endorsements business. While for a film star alone image didnt/doesnt matter much as long as his films were working. But brands are very image conscious. As soon as they feel a celeb is too controversal they drop him/her like a hot potato and celebs lose out a substantial amount.

Totally agreed! The main thing is that these 24 hr ''entertainment news'' channels keep bringing up your same old quote even years after you said it and the way they present it, is even worse. Earlier stars like Balraj Sahni had some very strong political opinions which they used to regularly voice in their interviews or columns. Today's stars can't dare to make statements due to fear of outrage that could be caused if media blew it out of proportion.

Still, I'd prefer stars to speak freely and frankly rather than entertainment websites trying to twist even their simple statements to something acerbic or keep making their own speculations on who feels threatened of whom! Media's habit of sensationalising stuff has taken the fun out of star interviews. 🤢

If I were in the film, I would have definitely got a better deal, but I still feel that the attention would have divided between us.

Totally bullshit!! Amisha looked very pretty in Kaho na pyar hai..compared to the actresses that were there during that time. she was a combination of sweet and sexy in KNPH. I adored her in the movie and they made an awesome pair! and she had a quite a meaty role too! Of course Hrithik's role had variations, but amisha was not overshadowed in the movie...she was there throughout the movie and not just in a couple of songs!!

true that. I loved Amisha in Kaho na Pyar hain.

She looked beautiful in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcuFHyV13BE

I thought she would've done wonders after back to back hits. but she failed. It's so funny. Kareena is talking crap about her, but her words ate her up with Refugee. 😆
