I have seen countless praise for the movie. I have watched it, and found it to be entertaining, but at the same time I know people who couldn't finish the movie as they found it crass.

Do you think they went over-board somewhere? Was there too much of cheapness that made it fall into the 'vulgar' category, or you believe it to be good for entertainment purpose?

TDP was a movie which was admitedly cheesy! if they toned it down they would have never done justice with the title itself which is all about being DIRTY!
a movie like fahsion could be toned down coz it had something else to depict but TDP had its theme on silk who was known for skin show and vulgur dances, they couldnt have toned it up ofcourse! just like vidya says either it was a NO for it or a YES, she couldnt have got done with it middle way by gettng it toned down a bit coz there were just no two-ways for it
I do feel by the end of the movie the audience do realise that it has offered alot more than just skin show! imo
However, i would never be able to watch it with my family, like DUH. I think it was tolerable over all but the one where vidya is in a red dress and her clevage is shown full heavy and she tries to act all hot for a video was actually very vulgur! kudos to her for getting it shot!

It was rather depressing for me! I did cried at the end of the film. Some parts were very entertaining with just vulgar dialogues. But it's far from a po*n movie imo! however it's definitely not a family film but noone denies it, I still like the film in a way I thought it was very nice to see films like this in Bollywood come to alive, the film did carried a true story it shows how cure publicity can be.

Not at all...people should have an idea tht the movie was inspired from Silk Smitha who was iconic sex symbol and queen of po*n movies at those times...so a certain boldness was required...so if the people still going for it and calling it vulgur are stupid becoz its illogical.

on the film the film had some dialogues which were really not comfortable to hear..but at the end for the characters it was ok...and coming to vulgarity, Chandni Bar was more vulgur and it had scenes tht i couldn't imagine watching easily..but then on the theme i can't criticize it becoz it was a film on the harsh and crude subject...so even with the uncomfortable scenes and dialogues..Chandni Bar was a movie worth watching and so as the Dirty picture.

I wouldn't call it cheap...it was more shallow...I didn't get much out of it...I saw a lot of boobs and an interesting story but the execution lacked depth.

Now you wouldn't call that movie decent right? The name itself says it all! Moreover the song Ooh La La... overboard, you know every single thing in that movie was "over"board! That movie was just cheap, period.

Not really for me, I took my mom with me and she liked it. The way people are acting as if she was having sex with all 3 man in the film.

A movie which revolves around dirty stuff that goes on in the industry cant be presented as a holy sermon can it? Of course it's gonna be dirty. That's the whole point! And the very purpose of giving the movie such a title was to be as transparent of the contents of the movie as possible. People are vulgar in real life, especially in the industry and that's what they showed. It was a true story for Chrissakes!

I have not seen The Dirty Picture yet, but I don't think the movie is intended at being cheap. I'd compare The Dirty Picture to Mark Wahlberg's Boogie nights. The story is about people in the adult industry. It is bold and might be uncomfortable for some audiences. However, the execution is classy, the storyline well written and overall it was a mature and well made film. Silk Smitha is not a celebrated heroine and her life was tragic. Stories like these are not often told, but deserve to be told. Kudos to Vidya Balan for taking on such a difficult subject matter and executing it with such class.
