This is how an average ( not all) Indian man thinks.. Doesnt matter how educated they are. I have friends in the UK who are like that, no matter how dark and unattractive their own features are par ladki should be gori chitti.

I guess with Indian actresses, we've seen more success with the lighter ones, so it's hard to think that someone dark could also have the same success because this desire for light skin is pervasive throughout our culture. Ads show those fairness creams, the celebs are whitewashed in the mags, and all of the celebs in the films are blasted with light so they "glow". That's why I'm looking forward to her singing "career" attempt in Hollywood...in a world of Gaga's and Nicki Minaj's, who cares if PC's brown? 😆

We have seen sucess with lighter ones? I don't think that's accurate in my opinion. Kajol and Rani have been pretty successful and their dark skinned actress.

But I never seen dusky being considered as the most beautiful...I only see fairness promoted in bollywood

A product of years of cultural indoctrination that particularly grew large with the arrival of the British in India. The saddest thing is Priyanka is considered 'dark'. Seriously, she has the skin tone of the average indian girl. 50% of our country is filled with much darker girls, and none of them have even come close to being featured on the silver screen. Everything about our representation of our own culture is skewed :(

We need to understand that beauty is not connected to skin or race or culture. It is seen in all sorts of humans - dark, light, medium, w/e.

hmmm I think you guys are over streaching. Deepika, PC, both are considered beauiful women in bollywood along with kat and bebo. I don't see any difference of how they are treated. But if Kat being the most popular in india today among the men...could be due to skin color...that yes I gues is an issue..as a dark skin/brown gril myself...that hurts. But I think the bollywood stars see dusky actress as beautiful and sexy. It's the fans that sometimes go overboard. I don't think the bollywood industry discriminates.

lol. the discrimination is evident when you realize that the darkest girls in the industry are pc and deepika. -_-'' what a stupid portrayal of our country, our true colors range from the lightest of tones to the darkest. I'm yet to see a bollywood actress who has the skintone of anyone darker than 'dusky' or 'wheatish'. -_-

I think bollywood is discriminating since PC herself said she lost out on a role because the director told her that they wanted a fair actress for the role

completely untrue

yesteryears hema and rekha were dark and they were the number one and number

two respectively

sridevi is dark and she was undisputed number one

katrina is number one now not because of her skin tone but because she is

also more beautiful than the rest and her movies are all hits

if fair skin made one successful as a heroine, diya mirza would be more successful

than dusky bipasha basu, fair kangana ranaut would be more successful than

dusky priyanka chopra/deepika padukone

veers heroine kat lookalike would be a bigger star than sonakshi sinha

anyways onscreen you cant tell difference because of the pancake everyone has

to wear

In Bollywood I don't think the movies promote white skin so much BUT you should watch South Indian movies, especially Tamil and Telugu...God they have an addiction to white skin girls. Almost 90% of the movies I have watched they have a dialogue where they are praising the Heroine because she is very white.

South Indian movies really promote that a dark skin girl = not beautiful.
