Mind that hand, Ashmit!

If you think Ashmit Patel played badly by scoring just 10 runs off four balls, then you need to know that the actor had to bow out of this game of cricket due to injury.

Ashmit was part of the Indian team at the IIFA Cup Celebrity Cricket match at Brabourne Stadium yesterday.

Others in the team included Sunil Shetty (captain), Riteish Deshmukh, Arbaaz Khan, Madhavan and Ashish Chowdhry.

Said a source close to the actor, "Ashmit looked terribly hurt. He just fell on the field, and couldn't get up for a while. After his injury, Sunil Shetty who was the captain, was concerned, but resumed play once Ashmit was turned over to a doctor."

Ashmit was injured during a batting partnership with Riteish. "I was on the non-striker's end and Riteish was batting," he said. "He hit the ball and it came towards me. I thought it would hit my face, so, to protect myself, I raised my right arm and ended up injuring my shoulder and hand."

Carried off field

The actor was carried off the field on a stretcher and taken to a hospital, where he was given painkiller injections, and had an X-ray done.

Great average!

"The doctors still have to give their final verdict on my hand. I am not sure if I need to put it in plaster yet, but the pain is quite bad." How many runs did he score? "In whatever time I got on the field, I managed to get 10 runs off four balls," says Patel.
