It's all about marketing. Announcing the sequel before even releasing a movie is a way of generating hype about that movie. Simple.

btw, wrong timing for the marketing strategy, usually this kind of announcement comes after the successful first weekend of the release to boost-up the collection.

"making a sequel", "success party", "we're casting the same couple on our next venture",... all are said or done to guile the skeptic audience.
