Rights For Adapting a Hollywood Movie

Does Bollywood get the rights when they copy a Hollywood movie? Whenever you see Hollywood remake a foreign movie (Ring, Grudge, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo...) they get the rights to do so. They also don't hide the fact that they are copying a movie and mention in their advertisements, trailers, opening & closing credits of the original movie they are adapting. It is no secret when they remake a foreign movie in Hollywood of where they are getting the inspiration for.

Yet with Bollywood I always feel like it is going to be a guessing game, when the movie details are first released, you see a trailer and you are able to tell this is a copy of so and so. Still up to release the director will keep denying it, saying no no it's not a copy, just inspired a little by, blah blah and whatnot.Then finally when the movie is out a few weeks later you realize it's a lot more than inspiration when basically the entire plot is the same.

I have to say though, this year there doesn't look like anything copying Hollywood except for
Naughty @ 40 (40 Year Old Virgin).

Ya, Now days they go and get Remake rights... otherwise holly producers sue them...

This is probably why there aren't many Hollywood copies, they don't want to spend the money for the rights, and they don't make the adaptations without the rights because they don't want to get sued.

So instead now they are remaking their own old movies, doing sequel after sequel, remaking South Indian movies (do they get the rights from them?) starting tv shows left and right with celebrities.

Hollywood gave them such an easy cash cow, no work necessary, just copy and paste. At least now we are getting some original stories. They will probably just start copying movies from Asia, Russia, Philippines, from wherever they can where no one will say anything now.
