Ranbir or Hrithik - The Priyanka factor
Karan Johar's announcement of AGNEEPATH now arriving only in January next year has disturbed the release plans of many other biggies. One of them could well be BARFEE which was earlier aiming for January release.
Comments an industry insider, 'Reason being that both AGNEEPATH and BARFEE have one common factor - Priyanka Chopra.. It is just not fair to have two biggies of a superstar actress to release in the same month. This means that there is a very good probability of BARFEE moving ahead.'
For the director of BARFEE, Anurag Basu, this won't be something new either. His last release KITES had seen getting itself pushed quite a few times before it finally hit the marquee. Also, UTV which has produced BARFEE would well be remembering that last year their Aishwarya Rai starrer GUZAARISH had come quite close to her other release ACTION REPLAYY and it had turned out to be counterproductive for both films.
'Everything gets impacted when top actors are seen too quick too soon,' says a PR guru, 'Not just the actor gets way too exposed due to multiple films releasing in quick succession, there is also a tough challenge to create uniqueness around multiple characters that he/she may be playing. Moreover, it becomes a tough task to procure dates for promotional activities. It is in the best interest for everyone to have two biggies of the same star separated from each other by a good distance.'
One wonders whether it would be Karan Johar who would blink first. After all he has confirmed that AGNEEPATH would positively arrive on 13th January next year. On contacted, Siddharth Roy Kapur of UTV Motion Pictures said, 'We will decide the final release date of BARFEE over the coming weeks.'
