Taran Adarsh: "READY is NOT for the rigid detractors or counterfeit scholars of Hindi cinema who masquerade as messiah of meaningful cinema."
Rajeev Masand: "When ppl make excuses like 'This film isnt for connoisseurs of good cinema', are they apologising for their own poor taste or the film?"
"Bang on. If you like a film, you like it. Bas! Why get defensive and say 'some wont like it' ? Dont apologize for your tastes na!"
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Should people be labeled as pretentious pricks and pseudo-intellects for liking off-beat cinema and should the masala/entertainment lovers be ridiculed for their taste?

Of course, NO. Still it often happens on this forum too. We criticize stereotyping yet we do the same. What's your opinion?

Movie's can be crap regardless of their genre. Some movies surpass these rigid genre's and can bring masala and intellect. Agreed that Ready is purely entertainment and fun, but even that can be pulled off well and be called a good film if done the right way.

You can tell when something is just rubbish thats thrown together to be a brainless entertainer. Masala movies can be great with the right formula, Dabbang was an example of a fantastic all out entertainer whereas a movie like Housefull failed.
Like so, alternative films/art films can also be shit. Many of them are.
A good film will find its audience and phrase regardless of its genre,

To Adarsh: Arre yaar apna review de aur ja. Bakwaas mat kar.

To Masand: Walk the talk.

Also... Taran Adarsh is actually a fool. And i'm not saying Rajeev Masand's reviews are god send either, but Adarsh gives out 4/5 stars at such a high frequence that its unhealthy.

One man's trash is another man's treasure ...

Applies to movies too...
One man's bakvaas picture is another man's brilliant picture...and vice versa... 😆

Dabangg is an ATBB and Housefull, a Superhit.
I couldn't sit beyond 20 mins watching Dabangg and with Housefull I didn't bother. I'm not masquerading as a messiah of meaningful cinema.

actually film viewing is a very personal experience...I for example really enjoyed Ready today as the cinema hall was packed with young Sallu fans ...seetis and taalis and all made the experience worthwhile for me...😛

True, personally i didn't find Dabbang to be the best masala had to offer, but to keep examples within a contemporary time frame, dabbang and housefull are two recent masala's and there was a difference between the two. From the reviews i got of Dabbang both the intellects and masala-fans enjoyed it, while in Houseful it got burnt in all the reviews by all parties (EXCEPT Taran Adarsh... no surprise -_-).
I actually am still trying to figure out how Housefull became a Superhit.

There's nothing wrong in liking or hating a masala film. I think stereotyping and generalizations go both ways; for if people like masala movies then they are often classified as middle class, aam junta, un intelligent etc etc, however, when people dont like masala movies (me for instance), they are often classified as wannabe pseuodo intellectuals etc etc.

I cant stand masala movies and I shouldnt need to apologize for it and the same goes for people who do like masala movies.
