Day 09 : A musical film I can dance to...

'Dil Chahta Hai' : I have not two but four left feet, I can't dance AT ALL... This is the best I can pull off gracefully, and without embarrassing myself on the dance floor 😳😃😛

day 22 - a film that could've had potentials for bigger achievements
Raavan:

I had a lot of big expectations for Raavan, especially considering it had my favourite director (Mani), favourite composer (Rahman), and favourite cinematographer (Santosh Sivan) on board. But before I get into it I'd like to also say I didn't hate Raavan, far from it. I merely just felt it was anticlimactic in regards to my hopes and could have been a lot better. Watching Raavan I felt like I was watching Ratnam's brain, darting around at parts, moving slowly with detail in some, and ultimately trying really hard to convey a message that got lost in the attention to detail. It was a movie when held up with a magnifying glass and admiring each individual scene, it is beautiful and lush and finely crafted, but it is when you step back and put all these scenes together the final result seems mismatched, lost and like a rough draft of something that could have been much much more.

I truly liked the concept, of how Raavan is not the archetypal bad guy, and Ram isn't the perfect man as we are led to believe, and Sita too is a woman with a mind and desires of her own. In fact I felt it drew a lot of inspiration from the real Ramayana's characterization if you read between the lines. The soundtrack was beautiful and the cinematography itself was flawless, there was a scene where I could see every single water droplet that clung to Aishwarya Rai's eyelashes.

Yet still, Raavan falls short as a film, in areas of continuity, pacing, and making a good story not just a good story, but a good film. I felt like what was written on paper didn't translate through to the camera. It was still though an enormous effort, and I always felt it didn't deserve the amount of criticism it got. It certainly wasn't stupid, or badly acted, or badly taken. Each individual part of the movie worked, but when put together failed to create the harmony a good film must make. I never got around to watching the tamil Raavanan but have heard some good things about Vikram's portrayal of Beera/Veera.

I watched the tamil (with subtitles) and the hindi version in my opinion the Tamil version wins hands down. Vikram's portrayal of Beera was much more powerful than Abhishek's. After watching some of the other movies of Vikram like Aparichitudu/Anniyan ,Shivaputrudu,Sheshu it feel like he gets into the character and therefore we don't see Vikram as the actor but Vikram as the character.
