Hilarious comic caper at best, tedious melodrama at worst, Thank You is something of a cross between Masti (2004) and No Entry (2005) with its focus on philandering husbands who later repent their infidelity.

Raj (Deol), Vikram (Khan) and Yogi (Shetty) are good friends and unfaithful husbands who pull the wool over their unsuspecting wives' eyes every now and then, until, one day, Kishan (Kumar), a private detective, exposes them.

Raj's distraught wife Sanjana (Kapoor) almost kills herself, but of course knight-in-shining-armour Kishan appears at the right moment to save her. Predictably, he gangs up with the three women and hatches a conspiracy to teach the unabashedly fickle men a lesson in sexual morality.

While Thank You is fairly enjoyable on the whole, it fails to excel in any one department, whether it is the story, screenplay, direction or acting. Side-splitting scenes are followed by others that are so jaded that you desperately wish for a remote control. Of course, the comic timing and off-the-wall dialogues keep the humour quotient up. The songs and item numbers, too, act more as unnecessary intrusions than pleasant distractions from the story. The camerawork is quite impressive, unlike Pritam's music, which can't quite bolster your flagging interest.

While Akshay Kumar, thankfully, refrains from the over-the-top histrionics seen in his earlier comedies, Deol and Shetty perform reasonably well. Khan, unquestionably the saving grace, is a delight to watch. His tongue-in-cheek dialogues and candid demeanour leave your belly aching with laughter.

Kapoor (badly paired opposite Deol) has hauled her real-life status as the worst dressed celebrity into her reel life. Outlandish costumes apart, you wonder whether the production house forgot to assign her a make-up artist. But her dark circles are no competition to her pathetic performance in the film.

Thank You offers a refreshing break from the world of bat, ball and runs. It may not leave you panting for breath, but it is sure to provide you some rib-tickling entertainment.

WELCOME, NO PROBLEM and now THANK YOU, Annes Bazmee's seems to have a special liking for these words of expressions. Comedy is the common element in all these films. Even Akshay Kumar is the common factor in WELCOME and THANK YOU.

The last time Akshay Kumar and Anees Bazmee paired up in 2008, the result was an immensely successful SINGH IS KINNG. Now, after almost three years, their jodi is back with THANK YOU, which is hugely inspired by Bazmee's own film, NO ENTRY.

Raj (Bobby Deol), Vikram (Irrfan Khan) and Yogi (Suniel Shetty) treat their respective wives Sanjana (Sonam Kapoor), Karthika (Rimi Sen) and Radha (Celina Jaitley) as ghar ki murgi, dal barabar. Suspecting that her husband Raj is philandering, Sanjana hires the perpetually flute-playing private detective Kishan (Akshay Kumar), who promises to teach the three promiscuous husbands a lesson that they'll never forget.

Anees Bazmee fails to add freshness in a plot which he already showcased in NO ENTRY. All that you get here is busty women, copious songs and humdrum sequences. It also propagates the 'Men are dogs' and 'Women are dumb' philosophies. While nothing significant happens in the first half, the narrative gets slightly better post the interval. But just when you feel the end credits are about to roll, it starts dragging with Raj and Sanjana's spoilt relationship in focus. That's not all. It's followed by a tacky and predictable flashback story of Akshay Kumar.

There are some genuine funny scenes like when an intoxicated Raj bashes up a person wearing black hat in a pub, just because he spotted his wife Sanjana with man in a black hat. Vikram has a misconception that he knows women realy well. It's hard not to laugh at his mastermind tricks and dialogues. Even the 'Kisna' scene in the first half is uproarious. However, they are far from a providing a satiating experience.

Pritam's music is uninspiring. Ravi Yadav's cinematography is first-rate. Steven H. Bernard has edited the film well.

Aneees Bazmee has handled Akshay Kumar in a very restrained manner. Akshay delivers a fine performance, but offers nothing that we haven't seen him do before. Irrfan Khan, with a superb comic timing, is excellent. Suniel Shetty is passable. Bobby Deol is decent. As far as the ladies are concerned, Rimi Sen is stupendous, Sonam Kapoor acts poorly, while Celina Jaitley (thankfully) gets no scope. Mallika Sherawat fails to impress in the Razia item number.

Annes Bazmee should perhaps say 'sorry' for offering nothing new in THANK YOU. Watch it for Irrfan, if you must.

B.O. update: 'Thank You' below average at plexes, better at single screens

A big film doesn't necessarily start big at the box-office and THANK YOU seems to have proved this statement right yet again. In fact, the morning and noon shows of the film were lower than last Friday's F.A.L.T.U. at several screens, while in several circuits, the plexes opened to 25% to 35% response. Sure, Akshay Kumar is going through a rough patch and his past few films haven't opened well, but THANK YOU being the first biggie of this year, it should've ideally started on a 70% + note. However, some single screens showed better results, with some screens opening to 40% to 50% to 60% response.

The absence of a good start at the ticket window can also be attributed to two major factors - uninspiring music and uninteresting promotion. The audience feedback is extremely mixed and it would be interesting to see how it fares in the evening shows [the first IPL match takes place this evening] and also during the weekend.

Amusing to see that twice this thread has been made non sticky..

I guess no lessons learnt..😳

Only those who survive trial by fire actually make it..

So basically the critics have all trashed the movie.... Hopefully janta too does the same and we'll be saved from future disasters like these....

Looks like the era of mindless comedies is finally coming to an end.. 90s was the time of dramatic and OTT movies and NRI romance.s.. with the arrival of priyadarshan.. we got to see the golden era of comedies.. no matter how much people crib about it.. all the akki comedies with priyadarshan.. and annes baazmi.. and so many others made movies that connected with the audience... comedies became the highest grossing genre.. the golmaal series.. but now with akki movies not being able to set the cash register ringing it seems that the days of slapstick.. and the masala comedies are coming to an end... Chalo lets see what new trends are formed.. after people move on from this genre.

This movie didn't even fetch an above average opening? If not good reviews, I was definitely expecting a decent opening since it's a typical Akshay Kumar +Anees Bazme comedy. Even Housefull and TMK got a better start than this. 🤓

But I guess the audience is not going to be fooled anymore. There was a time when small-budget, underhyped movies did not work because there was no popular starcast, big director, or anything like that associated with the movie. It's the total opposite now though and it's good that things are starting to change...we have movies like OLLO, Udaan, Tere Bin Laden, etc. gaining a good amount of recognition and even going on to become hits.
