That's because people watch films for different reasons. We can't question one's choice.
Smaller films are appreciated more these days so more directors are coming up with such films. It's good for us. Do dooni chaar and Udaan were appreciated by many.

Read Amol Palekar's interview recently where he mentioned that even after being successful in smaller cinema and giving consecutive hits, he was never considered a star and didn't get the same respect as huge stars back then.

Even today big stars in small films get more recognition still good actors connect with today's audience. Internet/twitter is a boon for them to reach wider audience. That's why stars are awarded kela and they empathize with those who try to do something 'different'. There's a clique of small filmmakers today who boldly comment on stars and bigger production house still end up taking their support.

😆😆😆 LOL tell me about it. I love that though. I mean they are trying to survive. for example, a local band no one cared about, becomes super famous and then they sell themselves out. simple act of survival and doing what you like doing best!
