Sonakshi Sinha is young, fun, fresh, popular, pretty, attractive, and believably stylish. She looks great in Indian and Western wear. It is no wonder then that she has been chosen as the brand ambassador for Provogue's womenwear line. She talks about her sense of style, Salman Khan, and her association with the brand.
You are known as your father's daughter and you are also trying to make a name for yourself. How does that feel?
I will always be known as my father's daughter and I am fine with that. Now, people are getting to know me for the work I do and that feels good too. It is great to be associated with Provogue because it is a cool and spunky brand and gives me a chance to break away from my Indian image. I am happy with the way my career is shaping up.
Are you replacing Katrina Kaif in certain brands? What would you never endorse?
I have not replaced anybody; I have only filled in an empty slot and I am happy with the brand endorsements I am receiving. Endorsing brands is the way forward. The media has written enough about what I do not endorse: kissing and bikinis.
What is your sense of style?
I love wearing casual clothes such as torn jeans and tees. I am an urban girl and have grown up in casuals. It is great that people like me in Indian clothes but they also need to see me in Western look. Now that summer is here, I love wearing florals and lots of nice prints. I like being cool, casual, and funky. People should wear dresses and loose shirts in the summer.
You have a fashion-designing background so how do you make use of it in your acting career?
I have worked with Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar and they are style icons in their own right. I styled Salman Khan in a shoot for Dabboo Ratnani. He was shirtless but with a shirt thrown over his shoulder and that was my idea. Knowledge is never wasted so I am using my fashion background to give inputs to Provogue's womenswear line. It makes it better for customers to identify with a brand when they know that the ambassador is also involved in the making of the products as opposed to simply posing for it.
Which Bollywood actor is the greatest style icon according to you?
I would have to say Salman Khan because he appeals to people from all walks of society and everything he does or wears becomes very popular. For instance, the sunglasses at the back and the blue bracelet along with the Tere Naam hairstyle have become popular among all sections of people.
What is the news on Dabangg 2? Won't you miss working with Abhinav Kashyap?
Dabangg 2 is in pre-production and we start shooting in January 2012. I am going to miss Abhinav Kashyap on the sets and but I am sure Arbaaz will make a very good director and I am looking forward to shooting the film.
You are a conservative girl. We heard that you are not very keen on doing item numbers even though you love dancing?
I love dancing and I have done so at award shows because I am comfortable with the clothes I am wearing and the steps I am doing. If I am comfortable with the item song and the clothes and choreography, I will do it. I am not scared of doing item numbers because these days, the songs are great.
