The best murders in Bollywood (onscreen)

American writer Ambrose Gwinnett Bierce once remarked, 'There are four kinds of homicide -- felonious, excusable, justifiable and praiseworthy.' 😲

While that's highly debatable, it sure holds true as far as fiction and film-making go. The medium relies on darkness and drama, among many other aspects of human psychology, to execute some edge-of-the-seat thrills on big screen. Hindi films do it too with rampant relish and exaggeration.

And so, 'I'll drink your blood,' declares a delirious Priyanka Chopra in Vishal Bhardwaj's soon-to-release 7 Khoon Maaf wherein she's believed to murder all of her seven husbands.

Quite a tall order, that. Prior to this wickedness, Bollywood's list of manslaughter features quite a few brutal examples of the same.

Browse through this random collection and vote for the most memorable on-screen khoons.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra could not have made it any more dramatic as Kher's virtuous cop, just as he's about to meet up an old pal (Anil Kapoor), is shot dead by a bunch of mafia men in broad daylight against the iconic Gateway of India amidst a fluttery burst of startled pigeons.
A scene from Parinda
Just like Othello stifles fair Desdemona to a 'guiltless death,' Ajay Devgn's mistrustful Omi smothers Kareena's Dolly with a pillow till she's lying lifeless on the very swing they shared some of their most intimate moments.
A scene from Omkara
It's almost heartless how a perfectly chirpy character, played by Asin, is mercilessly beaten, bruised, stabbed and what not till she's knocked cold in a tense, nail-biting sequence of Aamir Khan's vengeance vehicle, Ghajini.
A scene from Ghajini

It's not every day you expect the film's leading man to toss the heroine off the terrace ledge with statements like, 'Main tumhe azaad karta hoon.'

And that's what makes this bewildering exchange between Shah Rukh Khan and Shilpa Shetty most special.

A scene from Baazigar

There's nothing Simranesque about watching everyone's darling -- Kajol gets gruesomely assaulted and murdered even as her lookalike twin is beseeched by her helpless cries on the phone in Tanuja Chandra's uninspired remake of Hollywood's Eye for an Eye.
A scene from Dushman

Creepy voices and whoosh sounds behind trees lead to a squirming Helen even as an unspecified someone throws a lasso thrown around her neck.

Cut to next scene wherein she's discovered cruelly hung onto a tree. Brrr.

A scene from Gumnaam

It's a straight lift from The Bone Collector but, nonetheless, terrifying.

Having faced hell and beyond courtesy Saif Ali Khan's swindling ways, Urmila Matondkar's avenging angel ties her unconscious offender to a chair.

He wakes up to find himself in a cave with a crowd of hungry rodents for company. Death by torture, anyone?

A scene from Ek Hasina Thi

What a horror of a honeymoon!

Instead of singing melodious songs in Swiss fields, the just-married Raj Kiran finds himself unceremoniously bumped off by his gold-digger wifey who demonstrates some killer moves running him over and over again till he's dead enough to be reborn as Rishi Kapoor.

A scene from Karz

Smitten by Aishwarya Rai's striking beauty, Akshay Kumar plays a shady cop-turned-new leaf, who often harps how 'Yeh neeli aankhen marwayengi.'

Quite prophetic! As it turns out Rai's a mole and the 'Et tu, brutus' realisation results in a tragic loss of his life after she guns him down with glee.

A scene from Khakee

Sometimes you don't need to see what's happening to sense the enormity of the situation.

In what is possibly one of the most ingenious scenes in the history of Hindi movies, the screen fades to black while Jimmy Shergill's brash blue blood is slain at the hands of Amitabh Bachchan in and as Eklavya: The Royal Guard.

In his debut flick, a hunky John Abraham puckers his lips to offer a mega hot Bipasha Basu the kiss of death and shoot inside her unsuspecting guts in this Double Indemnity rip-off.
A scene from Jism

The angry young man continues to regale us with his signature rage.

Amitabh Bachchan plays a wronged guy who is falsely accused of murdering his wife by the ones who are actually responsible for the same.

Once he's out of jail, AB goes on a revenge spree resulting in full-on carnage -- the cop, the doctor and finally the politician in elaborately staged executions.

Dubbed as a controversial move in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's most satisfying film till date, Rang De Basanti makes a powerful statement against corruption by writing a scene that involves a group of armed college students (Aamir Khan and company) firing gunshots at a minister (Agashe) in the middle of a morning walk as a payback over the injustice meted upon their friend and his family.
A scene from Rang De Basanti

Long before Danny Denzongpa played Rajnikanth's nemesis in Robot, the duo worked on 1983's super hit, Andhaa Kanoon.

In true Rajni style, the bad guy meets with a not-so-nice end. And so Danny's fate is sealed in a cold-blooded murder within the comforts of his spacious bathtub.

A scene from Andhaa Kanoon

Inspired by The Eyes of Laura Mars, the suspense drama stars Madhuri Dixit as a clairvoyant types who has a premonition about her elder sister's demise.

Although it's revealed only towards the end, there's enough anxiety ridden moments before a bullet is stung in Moon Moon Sen's tummy and her body is concealed behind a broken wall. Hair-raising stuff!

When I went to India, I was all by myself in the tv room in my mom's aunt's spooky old-fashioned khataara mansion and this stupid movie called 100 days was playing in which the girl is sleeping on her back and this guy stabs her a million times in her stomach.

It has been 15-17 yrs ever since and I still can't sleep on my back. Freaked me out. Out of this list, I think Ajay killing Kareena was a spin-tingling scene and Akshay dying in Khakee gave me nightmares.

I know this is a very lengthy topic, but I found it interesting and wanted to share. Bollywood has never made any unique murder mysteries. I really hope they tackle the murder mystery theme well. Yes, I didn't like when Aish shot Akshay in Khakee. It gave me chills to! šŸ˜•

IF U THINK...if its a merciless death ever ....NONE CAN BEAT EK HASINA THI........i mean how horrendous it is....tht ur body dont deserve to die in a single knock out even get murdered by chewed and chewed in bits....ewwww enjoyed by the rodents..esp some what like RATS...gosh

none can be more creepier than this...........

after this BAAZIGAR...was mericless...i never understand in this movie why shahrukh had to kill Shilpa ... she wasn't involved in the destruction of his family right?šŸ˜• i mean his sister did die becoz of shilpa's father but not becoz of her.šŸ¤”...this was indeed BAD and disgusting...since the guy was shown good at heart.šŸ˜•...he did the most cruliest thing everšŸ˜‰šŸ˜†....AND TOP IT OFF....tht stupid kajol stood around by his side in the endšŸ˜•....jeez....how pathetic it was....🄱
