Fans turn violent at film promo of Akshay-Katrina
The fans had climbed on walls around the mall and vehicles parked across the road, but absence of policemen to manage the crowd of at least 5,000 was conspicuous. The organisers had reportedly told the police that they would manage the law and order on their own.
The crowd got so violent that Akshya Kumar himself had to save Katrina from being mobbed and harassed. The eye-witnesses said that Akshay Kumar had to hold Katrina in his arms after fans started misbehaving with her physically. The police said no complaint has been registered in the matter. However, they are investigating the incident.
The two Bollywood stars were in the town to promote their upcoming flick Tees Maar Khan. According to eye-witnesses, the programme which was organised at a mall was to kick off but before that crowd had gathered there. "The two stars had not come out to greet the impatient fans who were trying to barge into the area which was being secured by the private guards for the two stars," said an eye-witness.
He added that some youths started clashing with the security guards. "It created panic and two girls fell unconscious in the stampede like situation and were rushed to a nearby hospital," said the eye-witness.
However, the Adarsh Nagar police said that they are trying to trace the girls. The panic prevailed for at least 10 minutes, but the organisers refused to seek police's help to manage the crowd. Ratan Lal, SI, Adarsh Nagar said the organisers had told the police that they did not need police protection.
The programme had to be stopped midway and when Katrina and Akshay were leaving, the mob got once again out of control. Some fans misbehaved with the actress following which Akshay took her inside under his own protection.
