You need both for long term career. In the short run you can get away with many things....but to survive long like Kareena or Anil K you need talent!

yeh we must not forget that actors at the end of the day, work not just for creative satisfaction, but also for financial purposes...to earn....u cannot expect them to go "oh im just gonna do awsome roles, never mind if they r super duper flops and i go completely broke"...coz they all have themselves and their families to feed...so obviously, money (i.e blockbusters) are equally important...

Yes both talent and appearance matter if you want to be a commercial actor/actress in order to have an enduring career.

But it's also true that what actresses do are not as received by the audience as opposed to males. There is no solid "Queen of Bollywood" moniker for actresses that are there for Aamir as "King of Bollywood" as per the box office and SRK as per his movie roles. Sometimes an actress is considered a queen for a year (or two if they're really really good) but then the actress gets replaced 😒

In one word, no. Talent doesn't matter at all in B-town. What matters is who know, what family you're from and how well you can shake your booty (for actresses). I'm not gonna talk about Katrina because she's brought up as in example in all these discussions (for obvious reasons) but even apart from her, just look at the new breed of "top" actresses and actors. Every second actor is a star kid and most of the current lot of actresses can't act to save their life. The ones who aren't related to Bollywood royalty have to do 10 films to prove themselves before they're considered to have "arrived". Star kids, on the other hand, seem to arrive even before the release of their first film.

If that argument is not enough, consider this. Almost every single beauty pageant contestant since 2000 has become an actress. Now, if someone can point out the relationship between beauty and acting (or lineage and acting, for that matter), I'd love to hear it. Until then, I refuse to believe anyone gives two hoots about acting in Bollywood.

I agree with you but I think a lot of the members on this forum don't. The closest thing in Bollywood you get to an actor with no connections is a model. And then those who aren't related to Bollywood royalty are lucky to even have 2 or 3 films to prove themselves, forget about having 10. Or they sadly end up stuck in the limbo of doing B or C grade films, and are rendered supporting actors/actresses. Now there are top Bollywood actors who have had no connections but then compare their number to those who do; they are vastly outnumbered.

To me, I feel that those with no connections end up in the TV industry, because think about it, how many of them are related to the families of the Bollywood industry? Mostly none. That's where the true talent of India is headed. So I guess you need to be commercial, have some talent, and connections to actually enter the industry.

Have you ever seen Luck By Chance? It portrays the dark side of the Bollywood with a realist apprach😊

LOL koolchick, I'm not too sure about talent on TV. The acting I've seen in soaps is pretty horrific.😆

But YES! I've seen Luck by Chance and I LOVED LOVED LOVED it. You know, everyone keeps saying Konkona is not a "mainstream" actress but I personally love her choice in movies. They're a good mix of entertainment and quality (a rare combination in Bollywood).

p.s. I love reading your posts. 😃

Aww thanks, I like your posts too and let me say Pride and Prejudice is my favorite movie of all time...Matthew McFayden is the perfect Darcy😃

I don't know if they're talented or not on the television, but what I meant was they mostly don't have the Bollywood relatives/connections that most of the newcomers in Bollywood do

Talent hardly matter, hun. As much as I like Deepika and think she has grown as an actress lets admit it; she hardly had any acting talent when she was launched.

If talent was important most of the mainstream Bollywood actress would have never be chosen.

Has IHLS hit benefited Sonam ..she signed Players wid Abhi & Neil..but I dont see any big change..
Has Outim made a difference to Kangana and Prachi's career?
