Chitrangada, Kareena on screen together
"Yes, both Kareena and Chitrangada will be part of the film," confirms Mishra, who has worked with both the actresses earlier, and has had maximum acclaim coming his way post his association with them. While Chameli remains one of the landmark films of Kareena's career, Hazaron Khwaishein Aisi saw some instant attention coming the way of Chitrangada.
Earlier, Mishra was supposed to make a film called Aur Devdas with Lara Dutta and Chitrangada Singh. Aur Devdas is now called Dhruv, Mishra confirms, "The script has been reworked since a couple of Devdas remakes had already been made, so sticking to just the Devdas theme would be unfair. Also, it would appear to be a marketing gimmick, something that I didn't want."
The decision to change the script meant that Lara Dutta lost out and Kareena Kapoor came in instead. "There are certain roles that work for certain characters. This is the reason why Kareena became Chameli and Chitrangada turned Geeta (in Hazaron...). I wanted to have the best of both worlds for Dhruv," Mishra adds.
However, as of now, plans are yet to be finalised as Dhruv will be made by Excel Entertainment (Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar's company). Also, while Shiney Ahuja was earlier the central protagonist in Aur Devdas, Dhruv will star Farhan himself.
"That's right. The plans will be put together for Dhruv only after Farhan wraps up his Don sequel with Shah Rukh Khan. We will then be getting into talks and finalising the entire schedule, cast and other details. As of now, I see the film being made with Kareena and Chitrangada," he signs off. Well, that would be one Chandramukhi and Paro to look forward to, albeit in an altogether different avatar.
