B-town's glam quotient and one of the top favorite Deepika Padukone here reveals about relationships, love aaj kaal, and her experience while working with the Bollywood prince charming Imran Khan in her forthcoming coming of age rom com 'Break Ke Baad'.

Excerpts

If your relationship is not working out, do you think going on a break will help?

I have never understood the concept of a break personally. I feel if two people are in a relationship and things are not working out then they work hard towards making things work, and if things yet don't work out then you break up. I mean when you're in a relationship you have to continue working on it. There is no middle path like a break for me.

Have you ever resorted to taking a break in a relationship?

No, never. I have been in relationships, and when they don't work out I have tried my best to make them work. If they yet haven't worked out, then I have broken up.

How do you define the rules of such a break?

I don't know, I mean you can have the liberty to go out and meet new people, or you utilise the space to see how much you're missing the person. You use the time away to appreciate that person's presence in your life. But having said that, I don't really believe in breaks, so I wouldn't really know the rules that would define this break.

Describe your role as Aaliya.

Aaliya is a very ambitious girl; she wants to become an actor. She doesn't believe in the institution of marriage, she doesn't value her relationships. Whereas, I'm similar to Aaliya in the way that I too am very ambitious and am very focused when it comes to my career, but I'm also different from her in a way that I value my relationships, I firmly believe in the institution of marriage.

Considering that Aaliya is quite different from you. How did you prepare for the role?

A lot of readings with Danish. And then I just had to learn to let go of my take and believe in Aaliya's character. Like in Love Aaj Kal, Meera was quite like how I am in real life, but Aaliya was different so I had to go with Danish's vision. In fact, I had to keep reminding myself that this is just a role and I'm just acting so it's ok to be like Aaliya.

Describe your experience of working with Imran Khan for the time.

Imran is a very sweet person. What really helped that we got along wonderfully as friends. He made me feel really comfortable. The best thing about him is that he is not a selfish actor.

What was your experience of working with Danish Aslam?

One of the biggest reasons I said yes to Break Ke Baad, apart from the script was Danish's confidence. He comes across as someone who is very sure of his art. Apart from that it is just generally a lot of fun to spend time with him as he's very intelligent.

Do you feel romantic relationships have evolved over the years?

Yeah I guess it has changed. I feel the outlook towards relationships has changed, but the feeling is pretty much the same. Love means different things to different people, so the way people express their love now a day has changed too.

Is it a change for the positive or negative?

It really depends; people are a lot more in open about expressing things in their relationships. At the end of the day, it comes down to what sort of a person you are, and what sort of a relationship you are in.

I really feel sorry for Deepika. I really think everyone needs to just leave her alone with the whole "relationship" stuff. Poor girl. Its hard enough breaking up from any relationship and then on top of all that you have a billion people asking her about relationship and stuff. I mean how long are we going to stick to the past? Let's all just move on. Break ups are the hardest thing ever especially for girls. And no one just breaks up for the heck of it. I have to really give it up to Deepika for being so strong about it all. If it were me, I would have been broken in a second. I'm too emotional. Anyways point being is that these media people need to stop asking her about past relationships in every single interview. There are much better topics to discuss such as her forthcoming films, future projects, goals, etc etc. If you're interviewing someone about their forthcoming film, why the heck do you have to bring the topic of "relationships" into it. It seriously is getting old, and I think Deepika has spoken quite enough about relationships. Get over it now & let the girl move on with her life.

the media survives on the romantic lives on celebrities so I doubt they will ever stop asking them personal questions. 😉

I think the interviewer's questions were justified considering that Breakkebaad revolves around "breaks" but you're right, she/he shouldn't have asked her if she ever took a break. 😊
