We Are Family had a very good first day of around 2.70 crore nett on a partial release yesterday. The business came from the bigger circuits as Mumbai gave 1.20 crore, Delhi/UP grossed 78 lakhs and East Punjab added 33 lakhs. The rest of the country contributed only 40 lakhs as the release was very limited. The collections at high end multiplexes were very strong.

The film had the advantage of Janmashtami holiday which enabled it to put up very good numbers. The film may find an audience with the families over the weekend especially on Sunday. A good price for Satellite and Music is also a big plus for recovery though its theatrical business will depend on what happens on weekdays. The releases of the film is not that big as it is on around 650 cinemas across India.

B.O. update: 'We Are Family' collects Rs. 2.75 cr. on Thursday -

WE ARE FAMILY lived up to its title by attracting families in good numbers! Instead of having a wide release on Thursday [2nd September] due to Janmashtami, Karan Johar and UTV decided to open the film in limited shows [3-4-5 shows] at limited centres [main multiplexes] and the response was excellent. The film collected approx. Rs. 2.75 cr. nett on Thursday, making it the second highest opening in limited preview shows.

The word of mouth amongst the target audience of the film, namely women and family audiences, is wonderful and the Friday evening occupancy as well as Saturday and Sunday numbers are expected to be very strong.

We Are Family had a below average start to its first Friday, this was probably due to fact that the film had seen a partial Thursday release which was a holiday and collections tend to fall after holidays.

Also the first few shows on Friday are mainly dominated by the youth which is not the target audience for We Are Family.

The film may have better collections in the evening with Saturday and Sunday being very important for its long term theatrical business. The reports are mixed with certain segments of the audience liking and others not.
