Some posts make me wonder...do you read the difference between an overrated work and an overrated worker....? hmmm

Anyway - success is NEVER balanced - either you get TOO much of attention or you get TOO much of lack of it.
I'm happy that Aamir is appreciated for his brave attempts to make Hindi cinema evolve to the next step (social & education issues). But I don't forget he's a mainstream actor --- he's bound to do commercial movies with substantial or superficial material = 3 Idiots is a great combo of that by the way.
Great that entertainment & intelligent scripts are chosen by Aamir.
One thing I don't like is sometimes I get the feeling that there is a lesson giver behind TZP - 3 Idiots...I think the judgemental side may kill the message sometimes.
Sometimes his acting does look awkward or forced at some bits - especially in 3 Idiots.....
His pairing with Juhi was awesome --- I hope he'll find another acting match.
I love Lagaan cause it mixed up politics - colonization - sports - solidarity and the begining of conscientisation of patriotism..(does that make sense lol?)...
Aamir knows how to ally quality (most of the times) to quantity (what masses love in hindi movies) as an actor and producer.
At the end of the day - he's a money maker -- he's a producer actor..he has to sell products that aren't necessary in the market and his "power" is to make them cash - which he succeeds to do. Kudos to him.
I must say I love JTJYJ ---- cause the teenagers which were depicted were realistic to me and Imran's mother character looks/sounds like a modern mom --- I liked the elements of urban tale in it and the reference of "waiting for Godot" at the end and the reference to Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Amelie Poulain. That was unexpected & enjoyable.
I loved the soundtrack and I liked the poetry in it too.

Where do I start about Aamir, I have to say that when it comes to Aamir all my rational thinking gets thrown out of the window and I start displaying crazy fan-girl behaviour.

I remember the first Hindi movie I ever saw when I was 6 yrs old- QSQT. His sweet inncocent smile won me over and I believe I told my mom when I grow up I will get married to him.

Over the years my love for him has also increased manifold although I must admit that there was a period in his career when I was thinking WTF. Some of those movies were pretty bad, but starting with Sarfarosh he re discovered himself and the rest as they say is History.

The main reason I like Aamir is not because he is India's best actors (no he is not), but because he had differnet set of beliefs and he stood by it no matter what. Some of the most important on earth were known to have gone against popular opinion in their early days and were hugely criticised and called crazy, aamir too was widely criticised.

However he stood by his beliefs no matter what and eventually success followed him.

I like the way he still continues to do different things, no big star with a brain would produce a movie like Peepli Live, or take a break from acting for 1 year when they have just delivered the most succesfull movie ever and for acting in a movie with a serious theme (TZP) where he appears just before the interval. He is a Marketing Guru who knows exactly how to promote a product. he is very honest with his audience as to what they can expect of his each movie and promotes it appropriately.

I also like the way he still remains the same man he was 15 yrs ago, very kind to his fans and polite. Who else would invite their fans through the website for a meet and greet?

However having said all this I would also agree that he is not India's best actor. All his performances have been sincere and earnest but they also have a certain commercial element to it. For eg he some times over plays certain emotions.
Similarly I found his remarks about the SRK distasteful and felt that he should not stooped down to the level of the other actors involved in name-calling. And the Narmada controversy during Fanaa was also uncalled for.

However I would call him India's best Film personality for making a difference and for dragging Bollywood out of the old ages along with him. Many actors like Shahid, Hrithik now follow his mantra and Directors like Rizvi now have some hope.

To sum it up- I think the line in 3I that Rancho says suits him to T-
Dont run behind success, strive for excellence and success will follow you automatically.

May he continue to churn out great movies constantly.

Thanks Aamir for listening to your audience and for giving them what they need.

You are so right about success! Too much or too little! Never the right amount! 😆 It's kind of annoying....when you want the attention you don't get it and when you get it you are like ok enough stop it already! 😆 But yes I am enjoying all the hoopla over Aamir these days! Very amusing to me!

And Aamir Juhi! 😍 My dream pair!

Thank you, Pragya! You just saved me from typing up another long essay 😆

Dont want to reiterate but yea, hated him when he made those remarks about SRK/his dog, Narmada issue. Also, very recently, there was an article abt him claiming to be a liberal Muslim and found it quite hypocritical of him when he said whatever happens his kids will have to follow Islam. Umm, I thought u were liberal n all that..give ur kids freedom to choose, na. But I guess, his wife's dont have a problem, so sannu ki farak painda? 😛

Another thing: If you see him doing live interviews, chat shows, even when he's on game shows (Dus Ka Dum), you can see that there's a huge amount of thought process happening before he utters any line. Each line is measured, thought about and perfectly delivered. You won't see him talking bs/making no sense, whatsoever, most of the times(I say most of the times n not all cuz we all know abt the SRK incident...Oh, how the might fell! :() Even on a fun game like Dus Ka Dum, gosh, he thought sooooo much before locking an answer, Salman & Imran were like just do it n get it over with *grrr* and Aamir kept insisting, No, I really want to be correct, he analyzed every situation n finally, he didn't want to risk the money to be given to the charity so he withdrew, ultimately, to realize that he was correct and he would've won the entire sum if he had not withdrawn from the game. To cut the long story short, I really think he exemplifies: Put your entire heart and soul in every thing you do..no matter how big or small. (& for those ppl thinking he didn't want to pitch in any money from his own pocket thats why he stuck through till the end....he had already pledged a huge sum in addition to the amount to be won to the charity :))

Ummm, what else what else? Oh and I think what attracted me the most abt him were his cutesy school boy looks cuz most of his contemporaries, back then, scared me to no extent with their obsessive lover boy roles 😆

edit: Lehhh..I still wrote quite a bit! 😆

I was quite pissed off too initially. I literally went on a hating spree for 5 minutes! 😆 But I did a bit of digging....I doubt the authenticity of that statement. He has always maintained that his children are taught all religions....so it's a bit tough for me to believe that he would say that.

In any case if I try to analyze Aamir the person or even his public persona....I am not sure where I stand there! So I stick to my fangirliness with regards to his movies. The only thing I will say is that he has changed a lot in terms of how he interacts with the media....he was a recluse in his young days but now he has become more approachable....he is not so stubborn anymore ha ha....and I think he realized the importance of media mainly during promotion of TZP. I think even during RDB he had issues with the media and refused to give them interviews or something like that! 😆

Yep he thinks a lot. I would say his analytical skills are pretty good going by that DKD episode. Otherwise in his interviews he likes to give off this vibe that he is so and so and he is all this and that. Ha ha. He is very conscious of his public image....and tries not to say anything crazy even if crazy stuff are running through his head like a naughty boy. 😆 His naughty streaks are well known by his co-stars. He used to spit on their hands and pretend to drop tea on them! 😆 And of course SRk/dog thing. 😆 And I said I won't say anything about his public persona....😆

Ok I am out of this thread before I say anything inflammatory. 😆

He is one of the most unglamorous superstars. From his looks to his sense of style to his lifestyle, nothing spells superstar. Sometimes I feel he is a bit too dry, his interviews are very boring at times. But, his work manages to change it all.. Almost 9 out of 10 times I have hated the promos of his movies but 10/10 times I have ended up liking the end product. With all the world cinema and everything, his work alone in bollywood seems to have some credibility, others just lag behind in one way or other. His work seems the most genuine and relatable. He is the only one saving the izzat of bollywood in terms of content and commercialism. Others either do good work without getting noticed or do pathetic and uni-dimensional work just to get noticed! He provides decent and entertaining content, which seems real and can stand on its feet and look presentable in front of all the other world cinema.

I'm kind of disappointed no one mentioned his performance in 1947 Earth which IMO is Aamir's finest and most nuanced performance to date. He probably had a shorter role than he is accustomed to in more commercial films but the characterization and his acting (body language, silent looks et al) made up for the lack of time he was given.
Not going to lie though -- I haven't been particularly excited about his recent movie choices (Fanna, Ghajini, 3I). That is serious devolution in consideration that he's the guy who enacted the roles of Munna, Sid, Dil, Akash, etc. I won't fault him for wanting commercial success but at this point, it's coming at the cost of his performance and this was prominent in 3I. I think they were trying to go for a fusion of a masala entertainer and a serious social commentary-laden film but they failed miserably on both accounts.
That aside, I adored his pairing with Juhi. They were too darn adorable - even in the over-melodramatic Ishq. Pity they didn't do more movies together. Sort of nostalgic now..
- crappiest movie ever but so lulzy

The dus ka dum episode with AAmir and Imran was the best!! Just luved salman aamir chemistry and how they praised each other's work. I also luved their discussions about Indian men being shy while approaching women and how aamir with a straight serious face said 'behenji'. that cracked me up and luved salmans reaction as well. It was also amazing tht he would had won all of tht money had he not withdrawn from the game. Aamir may not be as entertaining as SRK or Salman in his interviews, but i still enjoy listening to him. He is inspiring.
