Movie Review: Lafangey Parindey

The Story:

Lafangey Parindey is a film that centers around two characters with completely different lives that are destined to meet amid the grungy back streets of Mumbai. Nitin plays One-Shot Nandu, a wild champion street fighter that is notorious for defeating his opponents blindfolded. One-shot is literally what it takes for Nandu to win in the ring, earning him his nickname as well as the fear of all those who encounter him. He makes his own rules and lives by whichever means he chooses. His independent attitude completely changes when he meets Pinky Palkar.

Played by Deepika, Pinky is a unique sweet girl with an enormous amount of talent. During the day she is a regular 9-5 worker at the local mall, come nightfall she transforms into a roller-skating dance queen who practices her skills at the studio. Pinky wants to make it out of the streets of Mumbai and become a famous dancer, but she faces a major obstacle - she is blind. She strives to prove to everyone else that she can do what she wants regardless of her disability.

These two inspiring individuals become friends and soon fall in love. The blindfolded street fighter and blind dancer were always destined to meet. Pinky attempts to tame his wild side by teaching him how to love and in return Nandu tries to teach her how to see the world around her. They struggle to make their relationship work amid the violence of the street gangs that surrounds them and strive to achieve the impossible.

What Worked:

The way the story of Lafangey Parindey is fantastic. The film starts in a way the effortlessly gets our two characters to meet and then to movie continues to focus solely on this story. There are no added side stories to confuse the viewer which was quite a relief. The consequential meetings between our pair are cute and are enough to keep an audience wanting more. As the film comes to an end, the climax keeps you hooked and the finale is brilliant. Deepika also deserves recognition for her portrayal of Pinky as she was flawless.

What Didn't:

It is easy to say that this love story has been told and really didn't offer us anything too new. Some also feel that Neil is a pretty boy and he was the wrong choice to play Nandu, though he managed to pull it off.

The Soundtrack:

The music for Lafangey Parindey is very modern and urban. The music is very different from what we are used to hearing on the Bollywood music scene and it is refreshing. With touches of rock and some amazing vocalists, the music for the film helps tell the story.

Slated or Rated:

Lafangey Parindey is an easy to movie to watch because the story is well told and easy to follow. Deepika is always a treat and the story engages all the way through. The choreography with the roller-skates is also very entertaining and worth watching!
